Smith to WSU???
In an article by Seth Davis in the athletic, he was asked what coaching shake ups could he see happening next season. The snippet below is a response to that question. Coming in at number 2....
"Craig Smith, Utah State. He was in the mix for a few bigger jobs last spring, most notably Washington State, but he brings back most of the key players from the team that went 28-7 last year and reached the NCAA Tournament."
I don't remember hearing many rumors with specific universities outside of the Nebraska speculation but I may have missed it.

Re: Smith to WSU
Highly doubt he'd leave for Washington State, he can play his cards into a much better gig in the Big 10, ACC or Big 12 eventually

Actually, I think if Smith plays his cards right, he could finish his career at USU.MetsJetsAggies wrote: ↑July 31st, 2019, 2:09 pmHighly doubt he'd leave for Washington State, he can play his cards into a much better gig in the Big 10, ACC or Big 12 eventually

Re: Smith to WSU
What do you mean by FINISH his career at USU? For example, leave and come back or remain here until he is finished coaching? If it's the latter how will we be able to obtain the funds to pay him a salary that is competitive with bigger schools?ChicAggie wrote: ↑July 31st, 2019, 2:10 pmActually, I think if Smith plays his cards right, he could finish his career at USU.MetsJetsAggies wrote: ↑July 31st, 2019, 2:09 pmHighly doubt he'd leave for Washington State, he can play his cards into a much better gig in the Big 10, ACC or Big 12 eventually

If he is content with making less than half of what he could at any number of other jobs that may be true.ChicAggie wrote: ↑July 31st, 2019, 2:10 pmActually, I think if Smith plays his cards right, he could finish his career at USU.MetsJetsAggies wrote: ↑July 31st, 2019, 2:09 pmHighly doubt he'd leave for Washington State, he can play his cards into a much better gig in the Big 10, ACC or Big 12 eventually
Logan is not for everyone, most people will move if offered more money. I certainly did.
If you look at how much money basketball brings into USU you can not compete with many schools. I believe we should enjoy the time we have with him. If one is really wanting him to stay then they should start to donate more money and buy as many season tickets as they can. We have a long way to go in that area.

Re: Smith to WSU
In related news, Logan is nestled in a valley in northern Utah near the Idaho border. While some people refer to our alma mater as USU, the full name is "Utah State University." The "Utah State Aggies" are the athletic teams that represent Utah State University. Any other obvious points I can make about Utah State?oleblu111 wrote: ↑July 31st, 2019, 3:39 pmIf he is content with making less than half of what he could at any number of other jobs that may be true.ChicAggie wrote: ↑July 31st, 2019, 2:10 pmActually, I think if Smith plays his cards right, he could finish his career at USU.MetsJetsAggies wrote: ↑July 31st, 2019, 2:09 pmHighly doubt he'd leave for Washington State, he can play his cards into a much better gig in the Big 10, ACC or Big 12 eventually

Sorry to be sarcastic, but the points you make are obvious to all of us. My comment was semi-tongue-in-cheek wishful thinking on my part.

Re: Smith to WSU
Sarcastic is fine with me, perhaps what all Aggie fans should do is forget about coach's leaving and enjoy what we have as long as we can, but remember if we want better do everything we can to improve the quality of the job. I'm certain that all posters here do everything they can right ?ChicAggie wrote: ↑July 31st, 2019, 4:01 pmIn related news, Logan is nestled in a valley in northern Utah near the Idaho border. My money is he will be Big 10 bound since he's a midwest guy. Tough to say no to 3-4x the money anywhere though.MetsJetsAggies wrote: ↑July 31st, 2019, 2:09 pmHighly doubt he'd leave for Washington State, he can play his cards into a much better gig in the Big 10, ACC or Big 12 eventually

Re: Smith to WSU
Same, and my hope is that he is fine sticking around until a dream job opens up so that we get 4-5+ more years here. Couldn't really blame him if he left for just about any Big 10 job though given how much money they can offerMadmartigan wrote: ↑July 31st, 2019, 4:40 pmMy money is he will be Big 10 bound since he's a midwest guy. Re: Smith to WSU???
My bet is that he sticks around until the right big 10/big 12 job opens in the northern midwest. I could see him leaving next year if that comes, or staying at USU for however long if the right one isn't offered to him..

Re: Smith to WSU???
I wonder what Smith's dream job is (other than USU, I mean). To return to Minnesota and coach the Gophers? Or does he pine for a higher-profile gig?
