Re: Daron Henson
Disappointing, if true. We don't get many wing players with that type of length and range around here. I think he could have developed into a significant contributor on this team and in this league.

Yeah I agree. I thought he would develop into a nice player. I didn't hear about any potential landing spots for him, just that he told the team that he's transferring.

Re: Daron Henson
I am ok with a almost clean slate for the most part we went 500 last year and didn’t improve as much advertised. Any player who thinks he can do better elsewhere see you later. We will see a major turn around pretty quick. For one this new coach can call a play or two. TD not at all. I don’t care about injuries so don’t go there. We need real division one players just like every program does. If that means we have 8 new guys so be it.

Re: Daron Henson
Too bad. Thought he had potential here. But if he doesn’t want to be here or feels like he won’t fit in the system then it’s better for him and for us that he finds another home. I wish him luck. I’m confident Smith will find his own guys to rebuild the program.

He already used his redshirt, and will only be a sophomore, so I think he will go the JC route.

Re: Daron Henson
Too bad. That is a loss. 3 more years of him with good coaching could have resulted in a good player.

This is why I speculated that he wouldn't leave.

Re: Daron Henson
That's too bad, but he had a lot of developing to go so Smith was essentially starting from scratch with him anyway. A clean slate is often better in the long run for a regime change.

Re: Daron Henson
Man, after Merrill he is the next guy I didn't want to lose. Kid can stroke the 3 and has the height and potential to be the type of player we need to compete in this league. At this rate, Smith may need to go get 8 new guys by the time all is said and done.

Re: Daron Henson
We really needed him? I’m glad he’s gone, he did not hustle,he played zero defense,he didn’t pass the ball, he had no ball skills, he could not finish around the basket, and he was a chucker, yeah I guess we don’t “need” him.
Re: Daron Henson
Only one or two players actually tried for TD each game. Funny thing was it was different guys here and there. I am good with anyone who leaves we went 500 as stated earlier for the last two years. I think Smith can replace almost anybody with an upgrade. I like that guys are leaving that means Smith is being honest with them and telling them what is required to play for him. The last time I saw this happen the team that showed up was in the final 4 within a few years. So long anyone who can’t handle the new expectations.

But we are replacing them with Summit League recruits that have no talent. What the Hell, man.Usurossco wrote:Only one or two players actually tried for TD each game. Re: Daron Henson
Are you sure they have no talent???? I will wait and see them play. I am excited to put the
last 6 years behind us. Anything but “oh we some injuries” would be an improvement !!! If Smith can’t find some talent I will not support him either. It’s win-or go home this is Division 1 basketball.

Re: Daron Henson
If you watch invincible the movie a seasoned veteran player asks should I be worried. Coach Say everyone should be worried did you see our record last year. I think every player should bolt if they can’t see the big change coming as a positive. Coach Smith is for real and you had better get your head around that fact if you want to see the court next year players.

Re: Daron Henson
You guys sure have low expectations for talent. Henson can shoot-- That's it. It will be hard for him to "develop" further because he's basically a spot-up shooter and can do nothing else. He cannot put the ball on the floor and do anything with it. And, worse, he's not a guy who has much inclination to go out and grab a rebound, and at 6-8 that is just not acceptable.
This whole situation with players leaving reminds me of whern Larry Eustachy came to USU and held a team meeting to set the standard for how things were going to go. The top returning player from the previous years team, Rod Hay, asked the question, "So how long is this meeting going to last? I have places I need to be." Eustachy said something like, "For you, not long because you are no longer on this team." Boom, just like that. Do you think Eustachy had not watched some video prior to that meeting and knew exactly what and who he had?
I would imagine there have been a few of those with Coach Smith, but he will get players who will play for him. That's all the matters.

Re: Daron Henson
Henson has potential and I'm disappointed he didn't want to stick around if true.
However, we're turning the page on 7 or 8 years of pretty terrible basketball. If the current players buy into the new direction, I want them here. If not, I'm glad they are moving on. Next year is likely going to be rough no matter what at this point, so I'd rather we improve the team attitude/culture even if that's with Summit League recruits, and I'd rather people who don't buy in leave even if that's the difference between a 13 win season and a 18 win season next year.
I think this is going to be a 1 or 2 year "rebuild" but by year 2 or 3 we'll be back in the NCAA/NIT discussion and it will all have been worth it.

Re: Daron Henson
Amen to that!!! As I've said before I will hold Smith to a higher standard than Duryea given that he is getting twice the pay and has been given more resources. If he doesn't produce it's time to move on.Usurossco wrote: ↑April 26th, 2018, 11:52 pmAre you sure they have no talent???? I will wait and see them play. I am excited to put the

Re: Daron Henson
Agreed 100% if we had it going in the right direction over the past three years we would not be having this discussion. Season tickets at an all time low. Players jacking threes 450 thousand times a game and missing I might add. Then blaming the refs while the other team has a open lay up or dunk. I will never support that.

Re: Daron Henson
In terms of importance to the team for next year I rank our current scholarship players (those that played last year) in this order.
1. Merrill
2. Brown
3. Miller
4. Taylor
5. Henson
6. Stall
7. Brito
8. Janicek
9. Ainge

Re: Daron Henson
BTW TD if you want someone who can jack threes all day and make 5 every 100 and you can get me a scholarship to Boise State I will hold my nose and be there. Also I can complain to the refs almost as good as Koby.

Re: Daron Henson
It's crazy to me how many people see a redshirt freshman and see a finished product. Someone with Henson's length, athleticism, and shooting ability coming out of high school don't end up at USU if they can also attack off the dribble, rebound like a madman, and lock down on defense right away. He was always going to be a project, but with some good coaching and some hard work on his part he most certainly had the potential to be the kind of player we need to compete at the top of the Mountain West. Best of luck to him wherever he ends up.

Was he athletic? He very well may have been, but I never saw it. He certainly had length and shooting ability.aggieguy13 wrote: ↑April 27th, 2018, 10:03 amIt's crazy to me how many people see a redshirt freshman and see a finished product. Re: Daron Henson
I think he was, it's just hard to show off your athleticism when the only part of your game that you feel comfortable with at the MWC level is shooting threes. I think that you would have seen a more explosive player as other parts of his game developed.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑April 27th, 2018, 10:15 amWas he athletic? Re: Daron Henson
The only way to know if we “needed” him is if Smith brings in someone better.
Quick, someone check South Dakota’s recruiting class......
