According to Lunardi...

Post by ProvoAggie » April 18th, 2011, 10:51 am

...Utah State won't even be in the NCAA tourney next year:
http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology

He has NMSU as a 14 seed as the only WAC team in. He has the WCC as a 3-bid league with Gonzaga< St Mary's and BYU. How worthless is Bracketology this early in the year?

Sounds like a fair prediction to me. The WAC was on a downward spiral even before Nevada & BSU bolted, and USU is graduating 4 of 5 starters.

wow, UNLV a 5 seed???? Loon-ardi still has BYU in the MWC.

Agree, Chic... the WAC is going straight to hell in a handbasket.

Is St. Mary's really supposed to be better next year than they are this year? They lost the WCC Player of the year and with him they got knocked out of the 1st round of the NIT on their home floor...they are predicted to get a 12 seed next year.

UNLV should be very good next year; they bring back a lot of talented players, and most every key contributor from last year. Rice is definitely showing up with a full cupboard.

I'm a reasonable man, get off my case.

I'll agree with that only because their "best" player is gone now in Tre...boy, talk about a hinderance. How Rice fares as a HC will be debated until November and no one knows just how he'll do. He does have a lot of talent returning and I think it'll be Thomas' breakout year(hopefully). I also think most of the returning players, including Massamba(of all people) will benefit in Rice's system, except for Lopez, imo. The Rebs should be good... but 5-seed good???

Yeah, I would say that's a fair prediction on the part of Lunardi. Though I think there is every chance in the world that the Aggies win the WAC, you can't pick a team that graduates 5 of its top 7 contributors. Unfortunately, I also think a 14 seed is a reasonable prediction for the WAC champ despite the fact that Nevada & NMSU should be much improved.

According to me, Lunardi must have something better to do with his time than create NCAA tournament brackets for a college basketball season that doesn't even begin for 7 months.

He has NMSU facing Arizona in the first round. That match-up will not happen since Arizona will be visiting Las Cruces in November. It's to early for this type of stuff.

I can see where he's coming from. Then again, we almost always make the tourney, and having the conference tournament on our home court ( ;) ) sure helps.

Well, people are reading and talking about it, and visiting the website, so it must be worth his and ESPN's time to write it.
