Fair enough. Eytle-Rock is transferring and I have to imagine USU will at least be on his short list with the entire coaching staff he has played for being at USU now.Yossarian wrote: ↑April 15th, 2021, 8:55 pmI think nvspuds and I are both talking about highly rated guys from P-5 schools that have not got a lot of playing time at those schools. Eytle-Rock may transfer, but it won't be because of lack of playing time at UMBC.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑April 15th, 2021, 8:51 pmHopefully we at least see Eytle-Rock.
As for higher rated guys, yeah that is a different deal. I think Desi Sills from Arkansas would do well at USU and hope Odom is recruiting him.

New Mexico just landed another P5 transfer. Freshman who averaged 8 points for Minnesota.

But he played for Pitino the younger at Minnesota and his dad played for the elder Pitino at Kentucky.ThunderAggie wrote: ↑April 16th, 2021, 12:02 pmNew Mexico just landed another P5 transfer. Freshman who averaged 8 points for Minnesota.

A few guys that some of you may have been keeping eyes on committed today.
Payton Willis (CofC) --> Minnesota (2nd stop there)
Justin Webster (Hawaii) --> UNLV
Trey Wade (Wichita) --> Nevada

We could really use a shooter like this. He will probably go to a P5 team though.

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
I've got to admit, I find it frustrating that I see constant transfer news & scoop on Twitter with good players & and who they're being pursued by and Utah State is basically never listed.
I won't spam this thread & list out all the Tweets I see, but it's a little deflating to not see us even in the mix for a lot these guys. I'm sure the coaching staff has a plan in their minds, but man there's 3 spots available. That's not stopping schools similar to us from going after a bunch of dudes.

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
Apparently we had not contacted RJ Eytle-Rock as of Friday.
https://www.basketballforum.com/threads ... 149/page-2
Which is consistent with the statement on the above thread that we have only offered Horvath of the UMBC guys.
Be interesting to see how this shakes out.

Maybe? I worry Odom is still mostly focused on talking guys we don’t need back or that aren’t coming back to come back... As others have said, we’ve not been linked with many guys in the portal in the Twitterverse. Hopefully it’s nothing!

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
I have been hoping so. Between tape and confirmation from our UMBC fan I just don't see a PG that will thrive at this level. I know some are excited by the prospect of adding him to the roster but I think we need someone with a much higher skill level if we want to compete.
I trust Odom and Co. will do what is best. They know him better than anyone so if they bring him on then I'll trust they think he is part of the solution. If not, then good luck to him wherever he goes.

I agree. RJ doesn't excite me too much, but if Odom thinks he's the guy then I guess we have to trust him.Aglicious wrote: ↑April 17th, 2021, 4:08 pmI have been hoping so. Has it been discussed anywhere on the forum about whether Odom has any high school recruits he was working in getting to join umbc next year that maybe he will flip to USU

Guilty of being excited about assing him to the roster. I think he’s big and crafty enough to be effective in the MW.

I was told players coming in, playing really well and then transferring up was a really good thing in another thread.

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
It is crazy people are arguing that. Do you think any Wyoming fans are saying, "hey we just lost the freshmen of the year in the conference who was all MW and our leading scorer, but hey at least we got him for a year!"? I imagine this board will feel a lot differently when we start losing legitimate star players to the new transfer rule. I hope I'm wrong, but over the next 10 years, I see the odds of us losing star underclassmen far more likely than us landing a ton of disgruntled soon to be stars from major P5 programs like some believe.2004AG wrote: ↑April 17th, 2021, 9:26 pmI was told players coming in, playing really well and then transferring up was a really good thing in another thread.

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
Our blueprint moving forward, IMO, is a balance of HS mission/utah kids (that aren’t near the flight risks for .....”cultural” reasons), guys transferring up from smaller conferences, P5 kids sliding down, and JC transfers (where a lot of developmental freshman are likely to go moving forward, as less and less low and mid-majors are going to want to take on the risks and costs associated with trying to develop these guys). There will probably always some other HS sprinkled in, but I do think you’ll see low and mid-majors start recruiting differently so as to not just become farm teams for the P5.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑April 17th, 2021, 10:02 pmIt is crazy people are arguing that. That was a great blueprint before. We had a lot of success during the early years of Stew's tenure with Juco guys. Shawn Daniels, Bernard Rock, Troy Rolle, Curtis Bobb, Desmond Penigar and Cardell Butler were all Juco guys.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 17th, 2021, 10:26 pmOur blueprint moving forward, IMO, is a balance of HS mission/utah kids (that aren’t near the flight risks for .....”cultural” reasons), guys transferring up from smaller conferences, P5 kids sliding down, and JC transfers (where a lot of developmental freshman are likely to go moving forward, as less and less low and mid-majors are going to want to take on the risks and costs associated with trying to develop these guys).
