The stretch of shooting

Post by SectionBAggie » January 12th, 2025, 10:09 pm

At 12:56, down by 6, Mason missed a three pointer.

Who could have imagined that over almost 13 minutes of clock time, USU would only miss one shot - making 11 of 12 shots to close out the game.

Those numbers are astronomincal in that type of a game.

There were no dunks over that time. 11 of 12 shots!!!! 6 for 6 from three!!!

And it included 5 different players. 3 different players hit a three in that time period.

Unbelievable!!!

We shot as good at the end of the game as they did at the start of the game.

Shooting 80% in the second half was insane. Boise shot lights out, we countered by shooting the lights back on and winning.

This is the reason why I was pissed when we passed it down low to Gateretse after he had missed 4 free throws in a row. It was tough to watch because the other guys out there couldn’t miss.

The only logical explanation for that shooting is Spectrum Magic.

We just need to stop sharing the magic with our foes. Shocked by how well teams are shooting in our house.

Live by the zone and die by the zone. BSU cracked the code on how to attack the zone. Pass to the center in the high post. Have him quickly turn toward the basket and see who collapses to help defend. His options are then to pass to a cutter along the baseline or hit him with a pass if he doesn’t cut to the basket. Alternatively he can pass it to a shooter on the wing or take it to the hole himself.

Most of BSU’s 3-point shots were open ones. Some were not. And some were prayers deep into the shot clock. But the trick is to make the shot when it is given you — which BSU did.

Against SJS, Wyoming and BSU we almost died by the three. Against SDS, Iowa and No. Texas St. we thrived because they all shot the 3-pointer poorly.

UCSD cracked the code, then Fresno, then SJSU, and now Boise. Calhoun said he was going to spend the day off figuring out the defense. Let’s hope he did.
