Is Robert Turbin Going to End Up Like Jaycee Carroll?

Post by JasonJensen » January 8th, 2011, 1:20 pm

We all love Turbin. He still has 2 years left to play so what I am saying may be a bit premature.

He's a big running back with decent speed. However, he's not super speedy either. I think that what makes him a good back with the combination of size (not huge but big) and speed (not shifty but can break away) will hurt his NFL draft chances. It seems like they would be looking for backs that run at least a 4.4 40 yard dash that are shifty and can make a lot of cuts. While he does have good size, he won't be running people over in the NFL either. Maybe he is quicker than I remember. Maybe he does run a 4.4. If this is the case I give him the pass. I do remember a few times when he was running that he really could turn it on. I hope he makes it to the NFL and I am sure he'll do what is necessary to try and get there. Getting drafted as a running back in the NFL is a long, difficult process.

Don't get offended by this post if your disagree. We all hope he makes it to the NFL. These are my thoughts for right now but we'll see what happens over the next 2 years. This is why I wonder if his college career to the pros will be like that of JayCee. Oh so close but not quite there...

I'm not offended, but I think you are underestimating Turbo's speed and moves. I can't wait to see him back on the field. For example...

This

(those are sub 4.4 guys he is running away from)

and this

and this (I love 0:24 and 1:20)

Oh, and some shiftiness...

I don't believe I can ever remember seeing Turbo get caught from behind on a long run.

Again, I can't wait to see him back on the field.

I don't know what an NFL career will bring for him, but he has ALL of the tools to be successful...speed, strength, balance, receiving ability, blocking ability, smarts, and commitment.

Sorry, didn't mean this post to be this long, but once I got watching highlights, I couldn't stop.

We really missed Turbins and Morrison play making ability. How many times did we see Turbin one on one with a defender and Turbin making them look stupid, We just did not have the play makers like last year.

It will be great to see Turbin back. How about we spread some love for Wagner too?

Here's some love for Bobby. Low quality video, but good stuff. Does anybody has video of his one-handed pick against La Tech in '09?

Some love for Stanley...

(best at 0:50 and 2:19, good stuff from everybody in this one)

In response to the subject: If you mean one of the all time great Aggies, I sure hope so.

I don't care if he goes to the NFL. I care that he helps us win and jumpstart our program.

Take offense, either you just like to start debates on the board or you have never witness Turbin run the ball. He has more skills and talent than Ryan Mathews had at this point( with less injuries), and Mathews went in the first round. Not may rb have speed better than 4.4 and have the dual threat capabilties with the hands Turbin has. And size, I'll give you credit you did mention that, and he can and did run over guys and I believe he could and will do it at the next level. And to say hes not shifty, maybe not on crutches. Sorry but Turbin will be a name long remembered with Utah State football.

I am officially excited for FB season. I do not care who our QB is. It should be real easy for any quarterback to hand the ball to Turbin.

Jaycee Carroll's problem is that he was only...

Post by Big Blue » January 10th, 2011, 12:23 am

about 6-2. That is pretty short by NBA standards for a two guard. Yes Ronnie Price is only 6-2 but jumps like he's 6-5 or 6-6. Jaycee just doesn't get on top of the basket like that.

Turbin should and will be smart and stay in school. There will be a lock-out and sitting around and not being able to train or work out with his coaches will only hurt him. Playing a year for the Aggies will only improve his status or prove he's damaged goods. Either way we benefit because we will know how great he is by his play or can move on to someone else if he can't cut it. That would be unfortunate for Melvin but that 's LIFE and it's more than a magazine....

Forget??? We have never really seen him. No offense to Matt Austin but so far he has not really done anything and no one knows whether he can live up to the hype. I hope he does and wish him the best.

Watching the vids get's me more excited for Fball season. As usual, with Aggie Fball season, hopes springs eternal in the Spring, only to fall during the fall. We have to be optimstic with Turbo and Kerwin. More than ever, I want to ram the football down the WYO cowboys throat and hopefully, Cowboy joe or whatever his name is gets brokebacked.
