JMU away game next year cancelled

This sucks, I was planning on attending this. I have tons of JMU friends and they have a cool stadium.

Well that sucks. I have never been to the Washington DC area and was going to go out and spend a few days seeing the sites and then go over to the James Madison game. Not sure why we would cancel obviously we had to pay some sort of penalty. Be interesting to see what game there is to replace it.

Given that they dropped us to play WSU, I would speculate that WSU bought out that game. But this is just speculation on my part. Too bad. That game would have been driving distance for me.

Nope. WSU released their schedule and we aren't on it. Our new conference mate already stabbing us in the back, lol.

Sucks. I was planning on attending, and getting to a Va Tech game as well. My wife went to school in Virginia and I’ve been to Harrisonburg many times. Beautiful area.

I don't mind that we lost this game. It was a horrible game to schedule. We shouldn't be traveling that far with the increase in the chance of losing without a fat paycheck. This was almost a guaranteed loss for us with nothing but downside to the game IMO.

Would rather have a mid-level money game (not another trip to Alabama, but something closer, like Colorado or Arizona or something)

I was looking forward to heading back to my old stomping grounds for a game. Oh well.

Maybe they will replace it with a mid-west money game. Of the teams that need another game. Give me Northwestern, Pitt or Rutgers. I could travel to any of those.

Answering my own question, Eric Frandsen saying we had 13 games scheduled for next year because we are on the road to Hawaii so we won’t replace the game

It's possible we helped JMU and Wazzu out by working with both to get out of that game and avoid a buyout, given we had an extra game scheduled.

The schedule on the site here only has 11 games without JMU, including UTEP, TAMU, McNeese, and 8 conference games.

Fbschedules.com has us playing 9 conference games + the three non-conference.

Of those, I would schedule FAU or Kennesaw State cause we are going to need to find impact players for next year, and Florida and Georgia are likely places kids are going to be from and want a game scheduled there for them. Maybe the kid who replaced Jalen Royals on his high school team after he left would be more interested in coming here if we accommodate him by scheduling Kennesaw for him.

It was worth scheduling the Temple game if it was the difference between us having the services of Rahsul Faison and not.

Northwestern, Vandy, or Stanford (if we need to get some kind of payout) or ULM, Southern Miss or NMSU if we don't and want it to be a future home-home.

No need to travel to the Eastern time zone.

UNC played Wake Forest in a "non-conference" game a fear years ago. They weren't scheduled to play for 8 years or something under the ACC schedule, and they wanted to keep the regional rivalry alive. So it is possible that both USU and New Mexico had an opening next year and decided to play a "non-conference" game against each other.

not a lot of "investigative journalism" here...this thread crowdsourced most of the same information in the article. but thought it was helpful to have it in print. also of value: the teams with open dates still and numbers of openings. i say we schedule NW or Stanford and get as much coin as we can out of what should be something of a competitive game (depending on what happens this offseason?) without jumping all the way across the country as others have mentioned.

I'm friends with the JMU cheer coach - was hoping for a reconnect with him and seeing behind the scenes to a real D1 cheer program. We were then going to do a drive up the east coast before flying to Utah and catching the next week's home game.

I think we're trying to keep the football team as far from DOJ headquarters as possible.

It’s disappointing to see the game canceled—was really looking forward to visiting JMU and exploring the area with friends.
