Will the donors feel like they were burned?

Post by GameFAQSAggie » October 16th, 2024, 4:22 pm

Probably the worst part about us seeing the lack of big game changing plays from Ike, and just getting out of him the tackles being the last guy chasing down the ball carrier, is that the boosters who paid the money to keep him at USU might feel like they were burned, and that next time we have a guy show the kind of promise as an underclassman that Ike showed, and are sweating out hoping he stays the way we sweated out hoping Ike would stay, those donors might be hesitant after not getting more out of Ike to similar invest the money needed to keep other kids. We can also cross our fingers that Ike gets a good enough evaluation to just go to the NFL after this year, cause him transferring to another school would further have those donors feel like they were burned.

Of course it's a problem that Ike is the last guy chasing down the runner in the first place, but what will happen when we in the future have linebackers more capable of getting to the outside to get guys down for minimal gains, or a loss occasionally.

Those donors on the other hand have arguably got a better return on investment on Jalen Royals. So maybe our ability to get donations to keep similar receivers in the future won't be as hampered.

NIL ROI is absolute (I can't express myself without swearing) in football generally, of course, unless you’re Oregon or Ohio State.

Yeah, If I was some super rich guy that was buying players for my school, I would focus on basketball more than football. You buy say two 5 stars in basketball you are pretty much guaranteed success. Football is just a different animal. You need far more great on both sides of the ball. When I was a student, USU had two superstars catching balls; a WR that became a good NFL player and a TE that became a 2x pro bowler, yet the team went 4-7.

The basketball equivalent of 2 stars like that and at minimum you are a tournament team.
Not to mention that football players seem to get serious injuries more often than bball players.

At least he plays. Imagine cutting NIL checks to Cam Rising these last 18 months.

Another thing, while I realize checks can't be dependent on performance, it would at least be nice if we could and eou have there be certain things that a check is withheld for, at least for blatantly stupid penalties. Obviously not for aggression type fouls like pass interference, or not even even every personal foul penalty that can be chalked up to aggression, just the very stupid penalties like shoving way after the whistle.

I think ROI is probably higher in a smaller college town like Logan, or Pullman or Corvallis. Basically cities were the main attraction.

Think about how much more money is made when the Aggies are good and/or have a good opponent coming in on a Saturday.

Hotels, Restaurants, the few Bars, etc. plus the city in general with the increase in sale tax revenue.

But those cities typically aren’t paying big bucks for their teams compared to the USC, or Austin or Other bigger cities.

LA businesses do t really get a huge benefit from USC being great. Logan businesses do.

I don’t think any of the local businesses that have done. NIL deals with any of the Utah State athletes are looking for much of any return on the investment. It’s just another donation to support the program.
