Re: PAC 12 update
Well, I guess we can all get back to work now.
Smart to get the media numbers pinned down to lure the best candidates possible at the best deal possible. There will literally always be a warm body or two to invite if it gets to that level.
I’m glad the PAC isn’t knee jerk inviting a Texas State or something.
Also leaves some time for that FOMO to fester at Memphis.

I know this is not a popular take, but UNLV is to me the best option out there. I like regional rivalries, and Vegas has a ton of upside. I hope they can get their house in order financially.

Re: PAC 12 update
I wouldn't mind Memphis. I also wouldn't mind having North Dakota State on a football only invite. I wonder if we could also add South Dakota State (Football only) and St Mary's (Basketball) as well. That would be a great conference for both Football and Basketball.
At the end of the day, no matter who we get, we will automatically be a step above the MWC. Better teams, better brands, and more revenue.
We also position ourselves as a great landing spot for teams like Arizona, Colorado, and Kansas if the Big 12 implodes.

Re: PAC 12 update
I don't care to add FCS schools, we have way too many in FBS as it stands now. I'd much rather add Memphis and one other full member from the AAC (UTSA or Tejas Norte if desperate enough) and then peel off Wichita State for oly sports. I'd rather us do that than add St. Mary's or especially GCU. Again, if we're going to add GCU, we might as well add Cal Baptist if we're doing that. Hell I'd rather we start raiding the Cal Bus League before adding more privates.AggieUprising50 wrote: ↑October 2nd, 2024, 12:07 pmI wouldn't mind Memphis. Re: PAC 12 update
I was saying this under the assumption that Wyoming is staying in the MWC. I would gladly take UNLV, New Mexio, or Wyoming in the Pac 12.
If we aren't able to poach any more Mountain West teams, I wouldn't be against adding the Dakotas for football. They are good programs that bring a good brand recognition that would help boost the Pac-12 reputation like how JMU's football program has helped the Sunbelt conference.

Re: PAC 12 update
I'm not sold on UNLV being the best option. The only positive UNLV really brings is it being in a large metropolitan area, similar to SJSU. And similar to SJSU in the Bay Area, no one in Vegas really cares about UNLV. The football team has been a bottom dweller for decades and it is unlikely this year is anything more than an abnormality. The basketball team last won a regular season championship in 2000, a conference tournament championship in 2008, and last appeared in the NCAA tournament in 2013 (although they did make it to the NIT quarterfinals in 2024). The AD's office is in a financial mess that it is apparently banking on the PAC monies to get it out of. Because of that mess, they are really hamstrung on reinvesting in the teams and facilities.88USUAggie wrote: ↑October 2nd, 2024, 10:55 amI know this is not a popular take, but UNLV is to me the best option out there. If UNLV is the best option, it is probably only because it is likely the easiest city to fly into out west.

Re: PAC 12 update
Totally. But keep in mind that we do need to add an eight team in order for the conference to be considered FBS status. If we wait too long without adding anyone, we run the risk of not being considered FBS and giving those reminaing MWC teams leverage.ViAggie wrote: ↑October 2nd, 2024, 12:25 pmWe can easily poach from the MWC in a couple of years after the dust and lawsuits are settled.AggieUprising50 wrote: ↑October 2nd, 2024, 12:20 pmI was saying this under the assumption that Wyoming is staying in the MWC. If the remaining MWC teams stay put this year, I'd rather add an independent (like NMSU) or a North Dakota State to get to 8 teams, then poach the other teams later.

Man, USF is so far away, i Guess that is worse for them than for us. It's just one game for each team for us.
Even still I would prefer to grab, Memphis, Tulane and UTSA. Get to 10 football members, then take Wichita State for all other sports and be a 12 basketball teams.

Re: PAC 12 update
It's a pretty safe bet that Memphis and another AAC school end up in the Pac 12 as the 8th and 9th members.
I also think that's why Texas St said no to the MWC. They'll be one of the first calls the AAC makes to backfill.

Re: PAC 12 update
In a good basketball conference, like the Pac 12 is going to be, I think 11 members is perfect. It makes for 20 conference games with everyone playing everyone home and home. With 12 teams you have to start missing teams or only playing once per year.LarryTheAggie wrote: ↑October 2nd, 2024, 1:36 pmMan, USF is so far away, i Guess that is worse for them than for us. I like regional rivalries, and Vegas has a ton of upside. I hope they can get their house in order financially.
If UNLV is the best option, it is probably only because it is likely the easiest city to fly into out west.
