I think “flash” matters. Look at Dion Sanders. As much as I don’t like him or all the hype, Colorado is what, 6-2 this year. I think he attracts high talent, which we lack somewhat. I wouldn’t want him, but somebody like Urban would be a tremendous change of pace around here. High name recognition… just as an experiment?

I disagree with the particular name, but I 100% agree with the point.

Hugh Freeze from Auburn could be fired, and he is another name that could be on our radar.

No thanks to Matt Wells. Grateful for what he did while he was here. He's a really good dude as well, but we need to turn the page to something new. Give me: Jay Hill, Jason Candle, Jason Eck, or Matt Entz over Wells please.
Brent Vigen at Montana St. would is the best head coach in the Big Sky

My top 3 are Jay Hill, Brent Vigen, and Jim Mora Jr.
Vigen has done an incredible job at Montana State and was the OC/QB coach under Bohl. Montana State is 9-0 and #2 in the FCS.
Jay Hill has done great work as HC at Weber State and currently doing a great job at BYU as DC.
Jim Mora Jr. (in his 3rd season at UConn) as HC took the bottom of FBS UConn team to being now 6-3. UConn is 5-0 against G6 teams and had narrow losses to Duke and Wake Forest.
Hill is a splash move in Utah.
Vigen has a splash move for quarterbacks.
Mora Jr. has a 31-33 NFL head coaching record (1-1 in NFL playoff games) and a 61-49 overall college head coach record (6 bowl games in 9 seasons).

Everyone keeps talking about Jay Hill. I would love that. There’s 0 chance he comes here. He will have much better options other than Utah State after this year and our AD has no interest anyway.

Do we need to remind you of Mr Freeze’s time at Ole Miss? With the DOJ on our butts, there couldn’t be a much worse pick for a coach.

Folks, my two best friends played for him at Weber. He wants to be a head coach. He wants to stay in Utah. I have it on good authority He turned down UNLV, and New Mexico in the past.

If Utah State wants him he will take this job in a heart beat. He’s wanted it since Gary left for Wisconsin. He’s been a finalist two separate times. One with Bovee here, and one before Bovee.

He’s not a petty amateur that will let what happened with Bovee impact this decision.

As someone who isn't on the Jay Hill train yet.

This is 100% correct. Jay Hill has let it be known he wants this job. Has had discussions with people within the AD and strategic alumni. I am sure Aggies22 knowns this but can't say too much.

If Jay ends up being our guy great, I will support them just like anyone else.

Matt Wells has also taken step to show his interest.
Bronco has too.

I'll still think that with the DOJ issues USU is facing, Bronco Mendenhall and Jay Hill will be our top two choices. It's almost like Gary 2.0 only the Feds this time are the "donors" pushing for one of them.

What is appealing about Bronco? New Mexico looks just like us this year with no discipline or defense. He is annoying as (I can't express myself without swearing) and I don't think he would bring a lot of great connections or excitement.

New Mexico has more penalty yards per game than even we do this year.

I don't think the DOJ can have anything to do with who we DO hire, but they can have an influence on who we don't hire.

Does anybody? But they may have a "preference " for a certain candidate based upon past and current performance. If they do, I think USU would have a hard time not considering that suggestion. I have NO insider information. I'm simply pointing out the DOJ can be quite persuasive when they want something.

DOJ isn't hiring our coach in any way, they aren't making the pick. You can bet their influence will be part of the search though. We won't be hiring Art Briles for instance

I'd be absolutely shocked if the DOJ said a single word about any individual candidate. They will (and have, I'm sure) provide general and specific expectations with the understanding that there will be much more severe consequences for USU if problems continue.

The hire will be made with that in mind. The DOJ will not say you can't hire X person. The DOJ is not stupid enough to open themselves up to potential liability by saying "You will not hire Urban Meyer." The expectations placed on USU will say that sufficiently enough to any competent leader...which we now have at USU.

DOJ likes a 4-3 base defense, lots of man coverage. On offense they like a QB who can run the speed option. I don't think we'll have two WR lining up outside the numbers anymore.

If Jay Hill can build an elite defense, I'm not opposed. BUT he would have to be willing to begin working for Utah State immediately, even if he needed to split his time between Logan and that hell hole he currently calls home.

Aggies 22 what do you mean by he would have to start working for Utah State immediately and split his time? Also who would you want for the head coaching position?

I assume his current school will play at least one game in December/January. If it's important to him to coach until his season is over, whatever, it won't be the first time we've done that. Gary Andersen was allowed the same concession. I would PREFER a new coach to begin at Utah State immediately.

We just need to make sure BYU loses a few more games and doesn’t make the playoff lol

I don’t want to put words in your mouth but reading between the lines I think Matt is your number one choice. This does not excite me but I trust you. Tell me why I should want this to happen.

We need a coach who is currently working as either a Head Coach or high-level coordinator. College football has completely changed in the last couple of years, can't afford someone who hasn't been involved in the NIL era.

Everyone keeps talking about Jay Hill. I would love that. There’s 0 chance he comes here. He will have much better options other than Utah State after this year and our AD has no interest anyway.
I think we do have interest in Jay Hill. I also think Jay Hill has interest in Utah State.

If Jay Hill can build an elite defense, I'm not opposed. BUT he would have to be willing to begin working for Utah State immediately, even if he needed to split his time between Logan and that hell hole he currently calls home.
Agree. Interesting enough. Matt is tell people he has his staff "ready to go". Whatever that means.

I would love a sincere response as to why you aren’t in on Jay Hill?? Sure you can make some criticisms, but I feel like those are only valid if you’re a big time job. I don’t see any other candidate on paper close for what we can hire.

- A very successful coordinator of a power 5 and top 10 ranked team.

- What’s different this year about byu from all other past years? Every byu fan will tell you it’s Jay Hill. He has his fingerprints all over the program and has changed things for them. Everybody raves about him. BYU is terrified of losing him.

- Hill wants to be in Utah and at USU and would be much less likely to move on. BYU & Utah seem to be about the only jobs that would pull him away (aside from a blue blood).

- Hill has deep ties and recruiting connections all over the West.

- Hill turned Weber into an fcs power as their head coach. Before him and after him they haven’t been good. He also brought a Weber state team into Logan and blew out usu.

- Hill would seemingly be able to bring a bunch of talented backups eager to just play and play for him from byu and Utah to usu.

- Hill already knows a system and exactly how to recruit and win at usu. A formula was established for doing this and a guy like Blake came in from the outside and strayed from it.

- Lastly, anyone who plays for and coaches around this guy can’t say enough good things about him. Just go ask Urban Meyer.
