Re: What head coaches that you like for next season
Mike Leach had success everywhere. Won at Texas Tech, won at Wazzu and won at Miss State. It wasn't like he had failed somewhere and was hired back. Pretty much the same with Lane Kiffin. He was fired from USC, but he did have a respectable 28-15 record there while he was coaching with limited scholarships; then he won at FAU and now Ole Miss. . Freeze was fired from Ole Miss for off field reasons and Auburn might be having buyer's remorse about giving him a second chance in the SEC with how bad he has done so far.LarryTheAggie wrote: ↑September 28th, 2024, 7:46 pmMike Leach, Lane Kiffen, Ed orgeron, Hugh freeze.coolag wrote: ↑September 28th, 2024, 7:31 pmCool that's one. Okay, most of them have Mississippi and USC ties.
I'd be very wary of hiring Aranda. 5 seasons as a HC and he'll likely be fired after his 4th losing season in 5 years. He has no track record of success as a HC.

Oregeron was HC at Ole Miss from 2005 to 2007 and was fired after going 10 and 25. He certainly never won a super bowl like aranda.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑September 28th, 2024, 8:15 pmMike Leach had success everywhere. Won at Texas Tech, won at Wazzu and won at Miss State. Starting in the 2023 season, there were coaching changes which continued into the 2024 season..
2021 won the Sugar Bowl, and the 2022 Baylor season was a tough schedule with some narrow losses and a rebuilding season.
23-24 seasons have been a struggle for Baylor, but it has to do with more of trying to rebuild in the today's Big 12 is really tough.

Re: What head coaches that you like for next season
Yeah, my bad about Oregeron, forgot his Ole Miss stint. Aranda still wouldn't be one of my top choices. Yes he had one great season, but 4(likely after this one) bad seasons. People on here wanted to run Blake Anderson out of town even though 2021 was one of our best seasons in school history. There's no evidence Aranda can win somewhere consistently and many coaches have had a lightning in the bottle type season only to show their success was isolated to that one year.LarryTheAggie wrote: ↑September 28th, 2024, 8:28 pmOregeron was HC at Ole Miss from 2005 to 2007 and was fired after going 10 and 25. People talking Orgeron?
If we hired Orgeron I would absolutely be convinced that I’m living in a simulation and this entire coach ordeal is just an elaborate troll job on my life.

Remember when Mark Helfrich really wanted the job when Blake was hired?
I wonder where we’d be if we would’ve hired him instead.

He probably doesn't coach again. He was an example of "quietly quitting" at LSU after he won the NC and no other coach was as happy to get fired and secure an 8 figure golden parachute as he was.Imakeitrain wrote: ↑September 28th, 2024, 8:45 pmPeople talking Orgeron?

Re: What head coaches that you like for next season
Has he even coached at all since his Bears stint? I'd be wary to hire him too. He did go to the national championship game, but he inherited a well oiled machine from Chip Kelly and ran it into the ground at Oregon. People joked about Ryan Day being on 3rd base for how good Ohio State was when he took over, but he is in year 6 and still has a dominant program. Helfrich's program eroded quickly. There are better options.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑September 28th, 2024, 8:50 pmRemember when Mark Helfrich really wanted the job when Blake was hired?

Re: What head coaches that you like for next season
The advantage that Aranda has is that he coached at SUU, Hawaii, Utah State, Wisconsin, LSU, and currently Baylor.
He was part of our 2012 team.
He knows our recruiting areas while having connections with the P4 world, and the transfer portal of a quick rebuild from Baylor and other players.

The problem with Aranda is that he has never coached in the state that matters to the person making the decision. Ohio.

Dave Aranda would be my choice for a head coach. Get him a couple of high level recruiting coordinators, and I think we get a program that stays out of the news for bad reasons
He had also been all over the place in college football. I have no doubt he could put together an incredible staff.
The guy can coach, I do worry a bit about his recruiting, but get him some recruiters on the staff.

Re: What head coaches that you like for next season
Looking at these numbers, USU has $1.37 million for their next head coach, which would be second behind Washington State whose coach makes $1.5 million. I’m not sure how accurate that number is, but if correct I think Diana can make a big splash. The PAC-12 offers new candidates that wouldn’t have been available before. You market it as the chance to be the leader of the program entering this new conference and I think some high quality names will be interested.
