Fall camp updates?

Post by dyedblue » August 6th, 2024, 9:02 pm

Any word on what’s going on in fall camp?

This place is as dead as it was in the Brent Guy days. Man, Blake really did set us back a long ways.

At this point, no news of players leaving(with the portal still open for another 11 days) is good news, as well as no news of season ending injuries.

What sets back the commenting on it is the closure of practices. If aggies22 is able to make it in, he isn't allowed to report on anything he observes.

What gives you that conclusion? I actually don't think that is the case. Blake is the only piece we are missing, in addition to a player or two, but gained transfers and have depth. No offensive or defensive changes in scheme from spring ball. I believe we will be just fine. The energy coming from camp is impressive and ND has control over the team, in which they've bought into. This is from what I've gathered from video, interviews, etc from X.

Yep. I agree. I hope I’m wrong, I just don’t sense a lot of hope out energy from our fans.

I’m excited for our new coach, but know very little about him.

Coach Dreiling has a lot of energy and the players respond to that. He's very much a players coach. I'm starting to get 2021 vibes.

This is where I'm at a well. I like Blake a a person, but man he made some questionable calls as a coach, like only targeting the tight ends 3 times a year.

Is Saturday's scrimmage open to the public? What time is it?

Didn’t we hear this last offseason too? I guess Broc got a few more targets but he still felt like an afterthought to the overall scheme.

The difference is that Petras comes from a previous offense that relied on the tight end. Petras already has it burned into his brain.

Does the play calling itself involve the tight ends more, or is it really just that Petras recognizes the value of a big target in the middle of the field?

It's always been about our QBs lack of recognizing the TE in the pattern.

Well lucky for us Petras has spent the last several years in a system where they rely heavily on passing to the tight end, so I don't think it will be a problem for him.

I heard the pig farmer is doing well. Is that true?

I hope he is. That is good news. We need a solid QB room. Based on our track record he will be needed once or twice.

Obviously I don’t want anything to happen to Spencer but how cool would it be to have Bryson Barnes get his revenge on Utah and then “The Trojan Killer” returns to the Colosseum to beat USC again.

While that's probably true when they are in a pattern, a large percentage of the throws have come off of RPO with the TE lined up as an off ball H-back and essentially lead blocking. The Aggies also lined up in double wide splits for at least 30-40% of the snaps I think. I believe there were also a small percentage of non-rpo plays where they protected but I'm not sure.

The takeaway from that is and maybe I'm wrong, but there were not a high percentage of passing attempt downs with the TE in a route. They were probably open a lot though when they were.

Are they doing a family day with any of these where the kids can maybe meet the players after the scrimmage?

Any word on what’s going on in fall camp?

This place is as dead as it was in the Brent Guy days. Man, Blake really did set us back a long ways.
I actually don't think that is the case. Blake is the only piece we are missing
Yep. I agree. I hope I’m wrong, I just don’t sense a lot of hope out energy from out fans.

I’m excited for our n new coach, but know very little about him.
I’m far more hopeful for this season because Blake is gone.
This is where I'm at a well. I like Blake a a person, but man he made some questionable calls as a coach, like only targeting the tight ends 3 times a year.
The tight ends are being heavily targeted in practice so far.
Time to see them light it up a bit and show their athleticism and speed with some “real” routes; even in the seam and YAC over just bubble screens and 3-4 yard outs….Open up rhe cupboards this fall…

That will probably take place after the scrimmage on the 17th.
