This move makes Hillstead entering the portal look pretty dumb. Glad we were able to pay coop for announcing he was coming back last winter just to enter the portal in the spring.

I get that he doesn’t like the way things have played out here, but here he is almost guaranteed to get on the field at some point. Finding another place where that is the case might not be easy.

He was the 3rd most talented QB in the room at the start of spring. He’s a competitor but I don’t think we will miss much

Legas was a leader behind people announcing coming back and was assumedly helpful in getting guys to commit to stay.
Not sure who this announcement is a worse look for, Legas or Coach? Pretty obvious to me that it’s Coach A. Always seemed like he was harder on Legas and looked for excuses to bench him. Blake may have a lot riding on Petras…

I'm one of those "you leave, you're dead to me" type fans. But Coop (and Peasly) is an exception, he deserves better than how BA treated him. Best of luck Coop!

Honestly, this sucks. Cooper Legas should've been our unquestionably QB1 heading into fall, and he would've been without Blake jerking him around and bringing in other guys. We can do a helluva lot worse than a Senior Cooper Legas.

I don’t blame him, he never seemed to be BA’s guy. Took Bonner to have to be in a cast for Legas to finally take over in ‘22, had a very short leash last year, and then we brought in two transfer QB’s. Coop stayed loyal here a lot longer than most would have. Wish him the best.

The legas narrative is a funny one. When he played everyone was annoyed how long he held the ball and could only make one read but when he wasn't playing he was a legend. I was fine with Legas starting going into next year but he is a very average QB but with a lot of moxie. I think BA was frustrated because Legas really limited what he could call. There was a need for at least one QB when Hillstead bailed. Now that Coop is also moving on we are going to need two. Now the draw could be immediate playing time. Will give more time for Petras to get the reps he needs and be the clear starter. I have always liked the idea of a clear starter. After all the receivers need to get used to his ball and pace.

Cooper Legas' QB rating last year was not only significantly higher than Colombi's ever was at any point in his career, but Colombi also played lesser competition at Marshall.
Legas had the #1 QB rating in the MWC last year.

Are any New Mexico State quarterbacks going to enter the portal that Dreiling would know. He probably wouldn't have dealt with the kids that started as much, but he would be familiar with whoever was running scout team for him.
