Re: Frias in the Portal
Recruited over?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Re: Frias in the Portal
I think that's the reason 78. He missed on a ton of blocks this season. Although he looked like he liked to pull and block out in the open.

Dislike due to the effect on depth.

Re: Frias in the Portal
That seems like a questionable strategy. Any idea why they’d do that?

Just in the Nick of time. Doesn’t it close today?
I’m sure this was a surprise to the staff.

Re: Frias in the Portal
The transfer portal closed January 2nd. Then it takes up to 48 hours for entrants to appear.

Re: Frias in the Portal
By my count we have 4 schollies left. Without looking at my spreadsheet, I think we are 3 deep across the five offensive line spots which is a decent number.

Re: Frias in the Portal
Good run blocker but bad pass blocker OT
Before the transfer portal, Motes and Frias should have been reserve OTs going into the 2024 season.

He'll have to sit out a year if he does transfer. He's already used his freebie.

Re: Frias in the Portal
Is it possible his departure is addition by subtraction? 6'6" and 340 lbs is impressive, but he rarely showed game day performance for his size. Saves USU some hefty out of state tuition, plus after 5 years of playing football, if that's his peak, yes, let him find a better fit.

Injuries really beat him up. He hadn't been 100% in 3 or more years. Kid gave his all.

Re: Frias in the Portal
Cooper Bassett also retweeted his announcement and put in a word for him- so it seems like a coached out situation

I don't think was "coached out" but I think he would like an opportunity to see the field as much as possible his final season.aggie_in_NC wrote: ↑January 5th, 2024, 5:04 pmCooper Bassett also retweeted his announcement and put in a word for him- so it seems like a coached out situation

Okay.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

They look similar. Ours just make it look like the dude made a play and is celebrating.
This makes it look like the player is a babushka that got caught in a snow storm and is using the Arizona flag as a shawl.

Re: Frias in the Portal
NAU will actually be quite good this next season; they finished around 5th I believe in Big Sky…arguably best conf. in FCS…and NAU did handle Montana; their only L minus the Natty game.
They also have an entirely new coaching staff and have picked up a bunch of portal G5 kids…
And their facilities are easily 3rd best in the Big Sky now….and a great town…and campus!
Frias will have to grind to start for them for sure!

Flagstaff in the summer has lovely weather. 70's and low 80's a lot of the time.Fan4AggieballAZ wrote: ↑January 24th, 2024, 3:04 pmNAU will actually be quite good this next season; they finished around 5th I believe in Big Sky…arguably best conf. in FCS…and NAU did handle Montana; their only L minus the Natty game.

Re: Frias in the Portal
I hear ya for sure this season; both MVFC and BS are easily overall the best two conferences in FCS. Kinda like SEC and Big10 with P5/P4 nowadays.AGinNEIowa wrote: ↑January 24th, 2024, 5:59 pmI'll take that argument.Fan4AggieballAZ wrote: ↑January 24th, 2024, 3:04 pmNAU will actually be quite good this next season; they finished around 5th I believe in Big Sky…arguably best conf. in FCS…and NAU did handle Montana; their only L minus the Natty game.

MVFC had 6 teams and went 10-5 with the Championship a 20 point win over BSC
BSC had 4 teams and went 4-4
And SDSU; has rolled past two years in FCS.
NAU will be quite good this fall and Frias will have to truly grind to get a starting role…
And Flagstaff is a great town not unlike Logan…Ironically; it gets not as hot in summer and not as cold in winter… I feel both towns could do a better job at galvanizing around their football programs as a whole….

I thought you'd counter with - BSC actually won more head-to-head playoff games vs MVFC.
Then I would say most were close games, except for the final.
