POLL: Level of excitement
With NIL and transfers many have commented a change in interest in our squad and CFB in general. Where do you stand?

Re: POLL: Level of excitement
Less than usual.
I'm excited to see what an offense ran by BA looks like. Hoping it is more dynamic than the O's when MW was HC and playcalling.
A little nervous to see how this defense performs. Joe Cauthen's resume as a DC is pretty sporadic.

Less than usual. Combination of the NIL, state of college athletics and low expectations for the team this year.

Re: POLL: Level of excitement
I’m way excited. I know we’ve lost some players to NIL, but I’m curious how our transfers and new coaches are going to work out.
I think the pendulum is going to swing back on the NIL stuff. I still haven’t made up my mind on it. I hesitate to call it a travesty because it’s so new. Although currently it doesn’t look great for G5 schools.

I'm excited to watch us in a conference that makes sense. Rivalry, history, regionally, makes sense.

Re: POLL: Level of excitement
Excitement level near zero.
Was excited last year because we were coming off a huge bowl win and MWC champs.
I learned my lesson after losing to Weber.
Add in NIL, off-field issues, coaches statements about fans, transfers en masse including defections to the boogers, and you get a mega “meh” from me until proven otherwise.

Re: POLL: Level of excitement
After seeing the athleticism in the practices I am up over last year a fair amount. I thought we would get 6 wins last year but I think we are at least 8. If they come together they have a much higher ceiling. Really happy with what Coach A has pulled together!

My level = same.
My "same" is always turned to an 11!!!! It's football, the greatest spectator sport on earth, and it involves the Aggies.
What else is there?

I'm cautiously optimistic. 6 wins is my expectation, but I wouldn't be surprised with only 5.

Re: POLL: Level of excitement
I am less excited than usual. Player turnover has left me more unfamiliar with the roster than I have been in a long time. There is also the feeling that any breakout player this year will be gone next year to an NIL deal somewhere. I am sure my excitement will increase as we get into next week but I miss that our program was about building a roster and developing guys over time and becoming familiar with them and now it is basically musical chairs for transfers that we hope will work here.

Re: POLL: Level of excitement
Since 2012 (the first full season after the program turning game in Hawaii), if you throw out the 2020 shortened Covid season, we have averaged 8 wins (80 wins over 10 seasons). This is not the program of 20, 30, or 40 years ago.bigblue32 wrote: ↑August 21st, 2023, 6:14 pmThe floor should be 8 wins? I would usually expect the minimum and average to be different. But maybe they teach Statistics different these days with common core and all.

That is fine. It just saying justifying a floor of 8 wins by pointing out our average has been 8 wins is slightly odd.Hoot wrote: ↑August 21st, 2023, 6:50 pmForget the stats man! But I agree we should be targeting at least 8 wins. For the last decade I viewed the floor as 6 wins or the season was not successful. I am all for raising that bar.

I know, it seems like a lot after decades of 1-5 wins but if we're bowl eligible (which we have been 9 out of the last 11 years) that means we're sitting at a minimum of 6 and a bowl win puts you at 7 so is 8 all that demanding?

USU win totals back to 2012:
2022: 6
2021: 11
2020: *1
2019: 7
2018: 11
2017: 6
2016: 3
2015: 6
2014: 10
2013: 9
2012: 11
Fewer than 6 wins precisely twice in 11 years, and one of them the 2020 vidbortion season. Where's the evidence justifying calling 2023 a sub 6 win season?

Re: POLL: Level of excitement
I think USU has been better at promoting excitement in the past. These coaches and AD staff only care about the football.
If they aren't going to put in any effort to sell the team, they better be incredible on the field or they'll be playing to empty seats.

Yes it is that demanding. To increase your wins from 6-8 is a massive improvement and not one that is going to happen often. 8 wins is a special season. 6 is a good season.Aglicious wrote: ↑August 21st, 2023, 7:21 pmYep, that's what I'm sayin'. 6 wins should be our floor IMO but 6 wins this year would be an unbelievable achievement for us.
Hope I’m looking really wrong come November

Re: POLL: Level of excitement
Bowl eligible every year. Minimum of six wins. That should always be the absolute floor for this program. For me, I just have a general lack of excitement for a system that ultimately will reject teams like USU. The deck is stacked against our school and our team. We will lose our best players now. We will lose recruiting battles due to money. TV deals will never provide the needed windfall of money for our program. Ultimately, college sports are dying for this fan.
I will still be watching our team every week. I'm going to enjoy the good that I have left. Some of the stuff from last year like the Weber game, and Blake Anderson hating on fans have faded. I flushed that last season.

I had super high hopes last year coming off of the championship season. Last year was a hard team to watch and root for. I get a different vibe about this years team. I am slowly becoming excited about the season.

Re: POLL: Level of excitement
They should have enough humility after losing to Weber to work harder and NOT allow a loss to Idaho State to happen. If practice on Monday before Idaho State goes anything similar to how practice went before Weber, then the coaches need to let out tons of F bombs at the kids about how poorly they are practicing, even if drives people to want to wash the coaches mouths out with soap. And let second teamers and even walk-ons try to prove they can practice better. Instead of letting practice go the way it did Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of that week and whine to Scott G about it.SwaggieAggie wrote: ↑August 22nd, 2023, 2:07 pm2a) IF… They happen to lose to Idaho State, then show some humility instead of running to Twitter to bicker with fans after getting your (I can't express myself without swearing) kicked.aceofspadeskb wrote: ↑August 22nd, 2023, 9:00 amMy level of excitement is pretty low. We would have guys posting us telling us about how their friends on the team hated Wells. But maybe it was cause when practice on Mondays went the way it did on Monday of Weber week last year, Wells would chew them out and NOT allow practices the rest of the week to go the way they did Weber week of last year.
The university cops might want to refresh themselves on what the statute says about assaulting someone with soap!

Re: POLL: Level of excitement
I am still very invested emotionally and financially with Utah State athletics but my excitement level for this particular team is low because I believe we’re going to suck and suck bad. I’ll still watch every game and cheer like hell but I’m not excited to get our asses kicked.

Re: POLL: Level of excitement
My excitement is slowly growing. A month ago it was reeeeally low, but watching a scrimmage and hearing positive things coming out of camp has helped. I'd say it's still lower than it typically is heading into a season, but I could very easily be swayed if we look like we have a pulse vs Iowa.

Re: POLL: Level of excitement
I’m hoping so bad that I look like an absolute moron at seasons end because we’re awesome haha I’d love nothing more. And yes having a pulse vs Iowa would be a huge step toward having some confidence.shoresy wrote: ↑August 22nd, 2023, 10:03 pmMy excitement is slowly growing. Re: POLL: Level of excitement
I have mixed feelings. NIL has nothing to do with my excitement level. I get excited when we are winning, or at least going out onto the e field and competing. I do not get excited about coaches and players that don’t care about winning, and are constantly making excuses for their losses. I’m excited when we play our hearts out. Win or lose, that kind of game gets me excited. I do not get excited when we have multiple personal fouls. That is not exciting.
I am excited to watch a few players every year, but it’s about the name on the front of the jersey, not the back that I care about. I wish players luck, I want them to succeed, but I want the AGGIES to succeed more. Play the best players not your favorite players. That is what brings excitement.
