Re: Offensive Coordinator
Give Bob Cole a chair on the roof of the new press box so he can call plays and smoke at the same time LOL
Believe it or not, I don't think Yost is currently coaching anywhere (seems odd) - ah, nevermind, he ended up somewhere his surfer vibes would be very much appreciated https://fiusports.com/sports/football/r ... -yost/2930
MW move back to Logan? LOL yea not happening.

Re: Offensive Coordinator
Reasons it might happen:
1. Matt is a loyal alumnus. He genuinely loves the school.
2. Matt loves coaching, particularly offense.
Reasons it won't happen:
1. As noted above, Matt doesn't need the money. He has millions in the bank.
2. He's in Oklahoma now, his home state, close to family.
3. He's effectively coaching right now, at the highest level, but with no pressure.
4. He has relatively young kids, and can spend more time with them now.
5. The fans at USU were not always kind to him.

Matt is not going to take a position in which he is completely neutered. If Anderson takes over playcalling duties, what would Matt do?

Re: Offensive Coordinator
I believe Wells is still getting paid by Texas Tech thru 2024. He could take a minimal salary for the next two years and Texas Tech would still have to pay the difference. Similar arrangements were made when we brought Huepal and Yost in

If Blake wants to call the plays, he should just promote Cefalo to OC and let him have the OC title and get used to doing all the other OC duties.

In all fairness, it was never on third down with Guy. It was from the opposing 26 cause of a lack of faith in the kicker though.CaptainChaos wrote: ↑January 24th, 2023, 2:44 pmI also saw this strategy as well under Guy with Leon Jackson IIIratofallaggies wrote: ↑January 24th, 2023, 2:29 pmArslanian punted on 3rd downCaptainChaos wrote: ↑January 24th, 2023, 2:13 pmor Brent Guy & Darrell Dickey - How do we have so many previous coaches capable of this strategy?ratofallaggies wrote: ↑January 24th, 2023, 2:05 pmActually, Dave ArslanianBearLakeMonster wrote: ↑January 24th, 2023, 2:02 pmThat would be Leon, not Anthony.Hoot wrote: ↑January 24th, 2023, 1:57 pmI wonder if this would lead to an unintentional attack punt?CaptainChaos wrote: ↑January 24th, 2023, 1:53 pmI somehow missed the whole matt wells conversation before I posted, but I am very surprised nobody has mentioned the obvious favorite Anthony Calvillo

Re: Offensive Coordinator
Hahaha. Yep, that's exactly what happened. You can be the head coach or a play caller or a ref yeller and maybe get away with doing two of those, but not all three.GameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑January 20th, 2023, 9:51 pmWhen Wells was calling the plays, Ahbye would observe from 5 feet way "so many times where he would go to do something, like rally the defense, or yell at an official, or correct a player, or evaluate a play for a challenge....and then had to cut it short because the play clock was running"Aggie84025 wrote: ↑January 20th, 2023, 8:44 pmThe other thing that would concern me is if Blake is calling plays that means he is taking time away from other things or putting less of a focus on them. I have faith that Blake can get it done as he has been a successful head coach but it is a little concerning for me.

I saw Matt Wells last year at the MW Basketball Tournament cheering on USU. He doesn't need the money but if he loves the school he could come help us for 2 years taking a minimal salary and saving the remainder for other coaches, then he could increase his visibility for another coaching gig in 2 years.

Re: Offensive Coordinator
I’m not sure why we would want Wells. He’s a nice enough guy. I don’t blame him for leaving to Tech—-but he’s about as middle of the road as you can get. At least in my opinion.
Everyone is acting like he’s too big time for us. I would think we would have no interest in taking him back. If he shows interest, let’s sit him down and give him the “It’s not you, it’s me” breakup excuse.

He also had one (healthy) Chuckie Keeton to work with. Not to mention a RB like Kerwynn Williams. Players that good make OC’s look really good…ask 2021 Tucker how great it is to have NFL type talent on your roster. Not saying I wouldn’t welcome MW back as an assistant, I think he’d be a great addition.
