Marquis Montgomery
I met another Snow WR this week who said he is really good friends with Marquis. He said the biggest thing in his recruitment is that his mom just moved to Utah and really wants him to stay in Utah so she can watch him play. Sounded like USU has a really good shot to land him.

Re: Marquis Montgomery
Yeah he is from Hawaii and he is a member of the church so he was really wanting that byu offer. We have a very real shot. I think he knows he would be a better fit at USU and play immediately heredonlarson8 wrote: ↑January 20th, 2023, 8:48 amI met another Snow WR this week who said he is really good friends with Marquis. Re: Marquis Montgomery
What are the odds he plays 1 year at USU before transferring down to the stench for some cash? I'd say pretty freakin' good.

Re: Marquis Montgomery
He could just take the cash now. He holds an offer from byu already. He is announcing his final 5 tomorrow (1/21) and will sign on Feb. 1. My guess is that he removes JSU and USF from the top 5. He has also received a few new offers since the top 7 list was posted, namely LSU and Oregon that might make an appearance on the final 5.3rdGenAggie wrote: ↑January 20th, 2023, 9:14 amWhat are the odds he plays 1 year at USU before transferring down to the stench for some cash? Re: Marquis Montgomery
That's true. If he wants the playing time today, he may come to USU and then when he wants the money after proving himself at the D-1 level he could take off. I'd say USU just loses out on this kid. BYU has all the money and essentially 115 scholarship spots...hard to compete against. Especially for an LDS kid.Aglicious wrote: ↑January 20th, 2023, 9:21 amHe could just take the cash now. Actually this top 7 was issued AFTER receiving offers from USC, Oklahoma, and Oregon.Aglicious wrote: ↑January 20th, 2023, 9:21 amHe could just take the cash now. He holds an offer from byu already. We are hard to turn down. We have been in a bowl game almost every year since 2011 and won the MWC in 2021. WR position is being decided by camp battle.

Re: Marquis Montgomery
I think I read that the NCAA was considering allowing the first transfer free, but requiring a 2nd transfer to have the old year off penalty like it used to. I think that would go a long way toward addressing the problem.

Re: Marquis Montgomery
Penn State, A&M, and BYU are hard to turn down too. Really hard. Especially as BYU has a history of utilizing tall receivers. However, I think the advantage we have is he can compete for a starting role right away with the turnover at the position.

We are NOT currently recruiting Marquis Montgomery. We may be on his top 5 tomorrow but we dropped him weeks ago. As several other places have as well.

Well if this is true then I'm starting to lose some trust in the coaching staff. I still trust them and I think they get a great group of guys to campus every year. But dropping a guy that is being pursued by top tier P5 teams is just a bonehead move.Aggiefan21 wrote: ↑January 20th, 2023, 11:40 amWe are NOT currently recruiting Marquis Montgomery. Re: Marquis Montgomery
He’s not being pursued by top tier P5 teams. Not in the way he is portraying anyways. Very similar to what is happening with Byron. Tweeting stuff out doesn’t actually mean anything these days. Interest doesn’t equal a committable offer. The truth lies with the actual commitment. Not to mention committing to a school can often mean much less playing time than here (see Patrick Joyner next year).Stockypoo2212 wrote: ↑January 20th, 2023, 11:48 amWell if this is true then I'm starting to lose some trust in the coaching staff. Re: Marquis Montgomery
I read it and those schools can pick and choose because they are so big. He is taking a long time to commit and I'm sure those teams have gotten commitments since then and we have not. Who's a better WR to recruit that is his size and that can play for multiple seasons?ratofallaggies wrote: ↑January 20th, 2023, 11:54 amRe-read this part.Stockypoo2212 wrote: ↑January 20th, 2023, 11:48 amWell if this is true then I'm starting to lose some trust in the coaching staff. My sources suggest that Marquis is giving up football in hopes that he can join the blue man group. Apparently he’s been training for months.

At least Montgomery has been semi-careful about how he has worded his "offers" versus "opportunity to play". Notice his tweets regarding Miss St., LSU, Oregon, UCS, and Oklahoma he says he has received an "opportunity to play" versus blessed to receive an "offer" like the others.
