Based on this site, 57% of those who entered the portal found a home for next season. Still not great odds.

Looks like Byron Vaughns still hasn't found a home yet.

Although I wish no ill will towards the young man, I hope the other players are taking note that even for incredibly talented players who can get P5 offers, the portal is a risky move that could land you in a worse situation than what you were in before.
IF the offers were that legit and for as many of them as he reported, he would have accepted ONE of them. At the moment he is sitting at home when he should be in school somewhere moving toward spring ball.

I don’t see that many spots opening up. What’d we think his plan is? Is he going to end up walking on somewhere for his last year?

Maybe he's tries to go pro thru the Canadian league or the xfl but honestly, probably. Left to make some money and is gonna end up paying some instead. You feel bad for the guy but at the same time, it's just business.

Maybe he ends up being one of the 50 to 55% that don't make it out of the portal. He could always go tear it up at Black Hills State.

The 57% number may be accurate, but even if it is it lacks important nuance.

How many moved from scholarship to Walk-on, or the other way around?

How many went somewhere of their choosing, or settled for what they could get?

How many moved up… or down?

How many had something lined up before they entered 😀?

They should have stats or a consultant that would give these kids an idea of success rate of entering the portal and getting a better offer. With so much unrest and movement amount college athletes it sure would be nice for them to get some education on such a big decision

They have to be willing to listen. Almost anyone could have told him he can't going to a big school and getting a big NIL deal. He wouldn't listen. I do think some of his reason for leaving was the position coach. But that wasn't all of it. He had big dreams.

You beat me to it. It would be wasted money and wouldn't make a difference. No matter how many statistics you were to throw out there, the athlete wanting to enter the portal would think they're different and an exception.... Go look at how many "bet on myself" tweets there are out there.

Solid post 22. I wonder how many make the portal jump and then watch most of the season from the sidelines?

I know for a fact that the Notre Dame offer was legit, however my guess is that they pulled the offer as soon as they got an Edge transfer from Ohio State to commit. I would not be surprised if that happened with the other schools as well.

Moral of the story, you can't take your time in the portal like you do as a high school prospect.

Looks like all that work he’s been putting in at the Texas version of Vasa is doing great work for him. A lot better than being put through a Division 1 football strength and conditioning program!

Have we heard where our Transfers are landing? Moa, Paea, etc? I haven’t heard/seen anything

I've heard Paea will likely end up at byu. The last time I talked to Sione he had not made up his mind yet.

The fact that byu effectively has 120 scholarships to give out is big for them. I hate it.

I live in Utah county and I over heard a local high school kid, going to byu, kid talking to his friends. He was saying how we offered him a PWO.

Later, I chatted him up and said he made a mistake and should have gone to Utah State. He said he probably would have, but with byu's built bar program, he would have had to pay his expenses at Utah State, but not at byu.

Wowsa! This is getting crazy. He just transferred TO USU. :headscratch: Maybe seeing that he was still 2nd string at this level after Spring ball was just too much to handle and wants to transfer down another tier to find a guaranteed starting spot?

Maybe not so "Committed"? or "Invested"?

That's a sign of real problems with the DC if the guy is wanting to transfer a second time, doing the sit out a year thing which he would have to do. Unless there is some rule that he can transfer without sitting out having not yet played in a game.

Looks like he lost starting job to Strong from looking at your depth chart which is probably the reason that he left.

Yep, the current society is all about instant gratification. I love it when players stick with a program and work their way up through the ranks and gain more and more playing time. With the transfer portal certain players just want to jump and leave as soon as they are not where they think they should be on the depth chart. It is not just in sports it is in life in general. Hard work and sacrifice pays off but it does take time.

That's correct. Jett makes two. Two more to go.

Jett Solomon is the third of four players that have/will hit the portal.
