Maverick Stadium Naming rights
Maverick pays us roughly 280,000 a year through 2037 for naming rights for the stadium. A total of 6.3 million. Thats a rounding error for them. Plus I have heard from others that they get a majority, if not all of $ from concessions sold.
Was this negotiated by Hartwell? If so he should’ve been immediately fired. A disaster of a deal. UVU gets a million a year for their Basketball arena only.

Re: Maverick Stadium Naming rights
Location of the arenas makes a huge difference. UCCU Arena is half a step off I-15 and one of the busiest freeway exits in the state. Maverik Stadium is on 8th East and 10th North in Logan.
$280k plus concessions does seem like a screaming deal for Maverik though.

Re: Maverick Stadium Naming rights
Yeah, that’s what I figured, but still, the TV Ad value from football, 20k on campus students driving by it every day. It has to be worth A LOT more than 280 a year.

Re: Maverick Stadium Naming rights
Why would concession revenue be tied to a naming rights deal?
Does Maverick supply the workforce or food for concessions?

Re: Maverick Stadium Naming rights
This is a great question. I don’t think they do. I think they might supply the food though. I think they only get the concessions from the Maverick Concessions stand, but that’s basically where most in the stadium that aren’t in club level/box seats go. I’m not sure how it’s all broken out.trevordude wrote: ↑December 27th, 2022, 9:15 amWhy would concession revenue be tied to a naming rights deal?

I think this deal is a very bad deal for the Athletics Department. I hope Mr 20 Million can find a better partner that will pay better and is willing to buyout Maverick lol

Re: Maverick Stadium Naming rights
Questions: 1) How much were we getting when it was named Romney Stadium?
2) Who else was looking to pay us for naming rights?
Sort of unrelated to the original topic: I go way above and beyond for Maverik, and yet they don't seem to care. There's one Maverik in my city, roughly 10 minutes from my house. It's a PITA to get to. I have to pass by 10 other gas stations to get there, but I fill up 95% exclusively at Maverik (5% of the time, I'm in a real pinch and need to gas up somewhere else). I do it all out of a love for Maverik and the Aggies.
I have to cheat a bit when I travel east and south, but when I travel west, I only fill up at Maverik as well (Western Colorado and Wyoming aren't easy, but I make it work). I've had a few REALLY close calls trying to find a Maverik in Grand Junction after driving for 4 hours.
The way I see it: My $ ---> Maverik ---> Aggie Football

Re: Maverick Stadium Naming rights
Worst naming rights deal in the history of everything. Like yuuuugely bad. Barnes screwed this athletics program over more than most people know.

Re: Maverick Stadium Naming rights
The terrible thing is that is was like a 20 year deal or whatever… 6 million over 20 years when your athletics budget is in the tens of millions really doesn’t move the needle.
If it was all we could get, then agree to a 5 year deal or something.
And if Barnes did this on his way out, then hopefully our AD has more oversight on these matters in the future.
I do love Bahamas mamas tho

Is there any sort of buy out to that contract? Might be worth the exit fee...

Re: Maverick Stadium Naming rights
I've seen a rumor in the past from someone here that said something to the effect that we might be able to work out a mutual deal to end early, I could have seen wrong though.

Yeah I’ve heard/read Maverick isn’t in love with the deal and wouldn’t mind terminating it. Not sure how true that is

Re: Maverick Stadium Naming rights
The problem is we would need to find someone that is willing to give us a better deal and pay any potential buyout. Which might be hard in the current economic climate.

Re: Maverick Stadium Naming rights
If my memory serves me right, a business can buy naming rights from another business. Crumbl could easily buy the naming rights.

Re: Maverick Stadium Naming rights
By 2037 the concession revenue might be more valuable than the naming rights, and maverik might be making money with the stadium. Seems like a terrible deal for it’s length.

The deal was done last minute and no one really knew it happening til it was announced. Icon was interested and willing to pay much more but wasn’t told about it til after it was done.

Re: Maverick Stadium Naming rights
That’s what so crazy. Concessions are way too profitable to be giving the people paying us to name the stadium money from concessions.trevordude wrote: ↑December 27th, 2022, 9:15 amWhy would concession revenue be tied to a naming rights deal?
Does Maverick supply the workforce or food for concessions?
The Mercedes Benz Stadium has a chick fil a… which happens to famously not even be open on the days that the primary events that routinely occur at that venue are occurring.
This deal is so bad I hope the next AD and President sick the internal auditors on it to see what exactly occurred.
