This seems pretty incredible. What is everyone’s thoughts on this? I would bet he gets the Buffs turned around.

The cap on scholarships given yearly has been abolished. Schools can now give schollies until they hit 85 regardless if they need to give 1 or 80 to get there.

Looks like there's going to be a fire sale of Colorado players in the portal. They went 1-11, so maybe not a lot of talent there?
I get what Sanders is trying to do, and I understand it too. Pretty abrasive to open up with asking everyone to enter the portal though.

Be interesting to see how it plays out. He will get talent into the program. Whether or not he can get them to be competitive will be another story. It for sure will generate a lot of interest and money coming into that program which other than a few off years has been bad the last 10-15 years.

Appears to me the NCAA has now created a gypsy mentality with allowing the free wheeling transfer of collegiate football players. Young men, full of high expectations and short on experience can roll the dice on jumping for a better situation and even get some that reported NIL money. Our primary collegiate sport is turning into a social, financial and unmanageable disaster.

It is a lot, and it's rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. But Deon has done nothing but win as a coach, and he's going to a program that has done basically nothing but losing in recent years. He's been hired to win games, and there aren't a ton of guys you can win games with on that roster. It's going to be really interesting to see how his approach works at a P5 school rather than FCS.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑December 5th, 2022, 12:34 pmLooks like there's going to be a fire sale of Colorado players in the portal. Nothing wrong with being honest. It’s not personal. He just knows he can get better players there in a heartbeat. Why not let some of the kids know now?ineptimusprime wrote: ↑December 5th, 2022, 12:34 pmLooks like there's going to be a fire sale of Colorado players in the portal. When did that change occur?
We are sliding back to the good ol' days when the big programs with tons of resources took every advantage possible to keep the playing field tilted in their favor. As if they didn't have enough advantages already.

I love the quote from the AD on this one, how in the world does CU-Boulder put up with this kind of garbage? "We don't have the money [to pay him] yet, but I know we can come up with it..." REALLY? That's how you do it? You go out and hire an expensive coach w/o having the funds secured in hopes he does a good job and people start donating to the program? That's all it takes eh? The answer to your question is “Yes” — that’s all it takes. When you tell folks a message they want to hear over and over again they soon begin to believe it. To back up that belief they send money. It is a time-honored tactic used by politicians and tele-evangelists. And it works, at least until someone shouts, “Hold it — the emperor has no clothes!”ViAggie wrote: ↑December 5th, 2022, 3:42 pmI love the quote from the AD on this one, how in the world does CU-Boulder put up with this kind of garbage? Re: NAR: Coach Primetime
We'll see. I'm sure the Buffs will get better they can't be worse.
He was able to get D-1 talent to the SWAC and cleaned out. But that may not be as true in the PAC-12- maybe more true than not. If Travis Hunter can stay healthy it could be cool. It could also save the PAC adding a dominant team at a necessary time for them. Is so it could save the MWC for now too (by not needing to raid the MWC)
On the other hand there is a lot of talent in the FBS. Patrick Ewing was a basketball star who coaches at Georgetown and Georgetown sucks now.
Either way I'm sure it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Re: NAR: Coach Primetime
For what it's worth, and I haven't looked into much so I don't know how accurate it is, but I've heard that one of the reasons why Colorado has such a tough time recruiting is because they don't offer many of the majors that the players want and those they do offer that are similar require a degree that's tougher to get. Not sure what to make of that, but I've heard this before.Imakeitrain wrote: ↑December 5th, 2022, 5:31 pmWe'll see. I'm sure the Buffs will get better they can't be worse.

1) football runs everything
2) The PAC-12 is going the way of the world
3) CU football is terrible (and has been for awhile)
4) Time is running out if the Buffs want to get into the B1G (or wherever)
5) They need to make a big move if they want to get better, fast
6) It's not my money
7) There's a hell of a lot of money in Boulder

He did say he’d make him earn it. It’ll probably be a heated QB battle like Legas/Bonner this summer. Prime's kid looked good enough at QB vs HBCU competition. He's nothing special. Interesting to see how he holds up in the 12 pack. Prime also recruited the #1 prospect in the nation Travis Hunter. If Prime brings 4-5 top players to Colorado that he recruited to Jackson State, they'll be competitive next seasonHoot wrote: ↑December 6th, 2022, 12:23 pmHe did say he’d make him earn it. Deion Sanders is pretty much Lincoln Riley with 1/4 the credibility, 300% more swagger, and about 4% of the U$C budget. Maybe 7-5 ceiling next year? More likely 5-7 with lots of 'feel good' national news stories. Meanwhile Whittingham hits 10 wins again and national media fails to notice.
