UNLV bowl bound?
Brett McMurphy says UNLV and Rice will go to a bowl game at 5-7. How is it determined which 5-7 teams go? Anyone know?

A strategically placed wallet left on the table by the university president.

no bowl game makes you money unless you get into the playoffs. They usually break even if you are lucky.

Re: UNLV bowl bound?
The way I understand the MWC bowl structure is the conference pools the payout money and then divides the net gain equally among the 12 schools. Doesn't matter what your specific bowl pays. Getting 8 schools into bowl games is nice but as others have said it doesn't net all that much for the conference. The MWC needs two things going forward, send a team to the NY6/new CFP regularly and work to realign our bowls for better locations/opponents/payouts.

I think before they split it the travel expenses are taken out as well for the bowl teams. Not much money is made. It is good extra practice for the teams, good exposure for the programs and most importantly a trip for the players to have fun. It is always great to be bowl eligible.MaverickAggie wrote: ↑November 27th, 2022, 9:48 pmThe way I understand the MWC bowl structure is the conference pools the payout money and then divides the net gain equally among the 12 schools. Correct. They use that payout money to cover all the travel cost for the bowl teams and divide net gain among the 12.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑November 27th, 2022, 9:59 pmI think before they split it the travel expenses are taken out as well for the bowl teams. I agree, the real benefit is the extra practices for the young guys and the experience of the trip for the players.

800k=1,500,000 -700k in guaranteed ticket sales
It may have changed but in the past the Idaho bowl did not have a minimum amount of tickets that we were required to buy.
Most of the other bowls required us to buy several hundred thousand dollars of tickets. The total net from the bowl games was not much different when the dust settles.

Re: UNLV bowl bound?
The school isn't using a discount ticket website to purchase hotels rooms and book flights, that's for sure. Travel, lodging, meals, swag, minimum number of tickets you have to purchase, etc., gets real expensive real quick. It's not like going to the NCAA tourney with like 20 people, try 200+ people when all is said and done.

UNLV just fired their coach, lol. Shocking given I felt they made improvements this year and it was only year 3 for them.

I agree! Scotty G speculated on twitter that you don't make this move unless you have something much better already lined up, but it's UNLV so they probably think with a new state of the art stadium they deserve better results.

Re: UNLV bowl bound?
Unless they have some proven commodity lined up it is a terrible move in my opinion. Arroyo had them going in the right direction.
