Offseason Musings: most entertaining offensive player
Not a ton to talk about, thought this could be a fun topic of discussion: Who is the most entertaining offensive player you've seen don an Aggie uniform? Lots of good candidates, here are a few of my favorites
Emmett White
Kevin Curtis
God-Mode Chuckie (2012-2013)
Deven Thompkins
JoJo Natson
3 headed NFL RB room of Doom: KW, Michael Smith, Turbin
For me the favorite is Deven Thompkins. There might be some recency bias here, but dude was electric every time he touched the ball. Out jumped defenders way bigger than him, sure hands and blazing speed. He would also.. ahem.. let players know about what he had done to them.
Chuckie would be my second place vote. That 2013 season where he opened with 22 TDS with 2 INTs was just absurd. Nearly got us a W in SLC. Torched opponents with legs and arm. Full control of offense and clear leader of the team. Curse non-contact joint injuries. What could've been.

Re: Offseason Musings: Most Entertaining offensive player
Watching Love throw the ball around in 2018 was about as much fun as I have ever had watching Aggie football so he probably gets my vote. Of your list, I agree on Thompkins. I have never seen a small receiver make so many contested catches down field.
Anthony Calvillo was fun to watch but I was too young to really appreciate it.

Kevin Robinson will always be a favorite of mine. It seemed like everytime he’d return a kick we had a chance to score which was pretty much the only way we did score then.

Three best RBs ever to lace em up in Logan:
MacArthur Lane
Altie Taylor
Roy Shivers
They were magical.
Demario Brown is first runner up.

Re: Offseason Musings: most entertaining offensive player
Great topic! I am most entertained when expectations are exceeded. So I'll go with Logan Bonner or Adam Kennedy. Both of them took the helm of teams with deflated expectations. Both of them got the job done by trusting their receivers. And both of them far exceeded my expectations.

I was going to bring up Demario Brown. In today's type of offense Steve Smith would have been awesome too. That kid had wheels.

He was also the only good player on some of those teams so he’s extra memorable.

And so am I.... I would also include Darrell Steele in 1963-1964 IIRC. He was so unique as he accelerated at an unnatural rate and with two steps was at full speed. A true freak of nature, and he was like tackling a machete. I was also blessed to watch Lane, Taylor and Shivers wear AGGIE Colors. I haven't' missed too much of AGGIE FOOTBALL in the last 60 years, and I'm proud of it.

What about Chris Cooley? I don't really remember a lot from when he played at USU (I was not yet as immersed in USU football as I am now), but from what I understand he was both entertaining and offensive!

Turbo?
Didn't see the first three, but would take him over Demario by a mile

Excellent names listed thus far. One I'll add that I haven't yet seen is Hunter Sharp.

Re: Offseason Musings: most entertaining offensive player
Demario was a pretty damn good back. His freshman year a lot of red zone touches went to Abu Wilson after Demario was the primary ball carrier much of the drive. Otherwise Demario would have put up numbers that likely wouldn't have been touched by Turbo.

Number 24
Tommy “Gun” Larscheid. He was pretty dang good in his own right. Not in my top ten list, but pretty close.
Anyone remember him??

The confluence of Tony Adams, Tom Forzani, and Chuck Mills' pro set offense was almost magical. As a senior in 1972, Adams set an NCAA record of 561 passing yards and 5 touchdowns in a 44-16 rout of the Utah Utes.

I used to know a promising young center that played freshman ball, and I believe overlapped with Adams.

That season had some very painfully entertaining moments. That tops the list. Not quite as entertaining as an entire team forfeiting a game for feeling offended, but close. Abu Wilson before his knee injury was a very special player. Big and incredably fast. He did a lot of things that P5 running backs do. Then and Luke Staley, his senior year at BYU, were very similar. Post knee injury he was just a "really good" back. That knee injury took away some of his burst.

I will get hammered for saying this, but Turbin before his ACL injury was better laterally and a better RB overall. When he got back and added all that weight he was still a beast, but not as quick laterally.AggiesForever wrote: ↑June 29th, 2022, 11:51 amAbu Wilson before his knee injury was a very special player. Re: Offseason Musings: most entertaining offensive player
Even though 1993 was still a great year with the first bowl win in forever, if he doesn't blow out his knee just before the season began, I think we'd have gone 9-3. Both the Baylor and UNR games were lost in the final seconds where even the slightest semblance of a running game would have iced both for victories.AggiesForever wrote: ↑June 29th, 2022, 11:51 amAbu Wilson before his knee injury was a very special player. The last game I saw in person before moving away, was the final home game in '94. In mud and snow, he just abused NMSU. It was a lot of fun to watch.

@aggies22 We had the same history teacher and offensive coordinator. However I learned more about football than history from Mr. Clark! . I did see him officiating some college games years ago. I remember the first time I saw him on TV I about knocked my brother off the couch pointing out coach Clark! I remember him telling me the story of when he was being recruited he had offers to some of the bigger schools... I cant remember who it was he talked to... maybe Merlin Olsen... told him to consider Utah State as at the bigger schools there would be 3 backs in front of him. Told him if you have the talent to play in the NFL they will find you wherever you are.
Having never seen any of the older guys, I am going to go with Demario Brown. I had a sideline pass in the Abu Wilson and Demario days that my neighbor would give me. I remember feeling pretty cool standing next to Abu Wilson on the sidelines. I also remember thinking this dude looks allot bigger in person than from the top of the student section where my family sat(read stood) for years growing up.
Also Emmet White just because my best tackle in HS football was against him... Unfortunately its probably also the only time I tackled him.. the rest of the time I think he left me sitting in the grass. I knew he was good then.. I was fun watching him throughout his career.

Re: Offseason Musings: most entertaining offensive player
Darwin Thompson wasn’t an Aggie for long but the dude was absolutely ridiculous. Like leveon bell snuck onto a college field and ran the ball but with more power. His linebacker hurdle at BYU was legendary
