Will you hate the Big 12 schools

when BYU is in the conference just cause of their association with BYU? Like will you, just cause of BYU, go as far as to cheer for SEC teams against Big 12 schools. Or Big Ten teams against Big 12 schools. Like would you get more excited about Oklahoma State or Iowa State losing to a MAC school than say Purdue or Northwestern losing to a MAC school.

We have one poster who would like to see Kansas win as many meager football games as possible, will everyone else cause of BYU celebrate each horrible OOC loss Kansas suffers?

Obviously, while Houston, UCF and Cincinnati won't be G5 any more, they will still be little guys in comparison to Georgia, LSU, Alabama and Ohio State. Even though TCU has now been in the Big 12 for several years, they have still done little enough in the Big 12 that they are someone you can cheer for as the little guy, at least against the blue bloods.

I hate any team not named the Utah State Aggies. SOME I just hate more than others.

I cheer for all G5’s against P5’s. That being said, the Big12 is my favorite P5 and I’ll cheer for them against other P5’s with a few exceptions. I will cheer for Cincy, Houston, and UCF to win and dominate in the Big12 just to prove that the better G5 teams are as good as most of the P5. I will cheer for BYU to lose every game, with the only exception being against the Utes, where I usually root against whomever is ranked higher.

The Big East FB experiment was proof positive that just because you join a certain league does not make you a P5 program.
And the B12 is just the new BE, with many of the same schools. Prediction time - the B12 will ultimately become a Private Religious School conference and they'll have all the decent sized schools minus Notre Damn.

Yeah basically, although I could argue that the Big12 is as strong as the Pac12 or ACC (other than Clemson). The bottom few teams of most the P5’s aren’t any better than the top few teams in each G5, despite all their advantages.

True we could debate it.

I’d argue that the big 12 doesn’t have any premier programs such as Clemson/Florida state/Miami (yes know fsu is down currently) or usc/oregon/ucla.

Yeah, I have been telling people from Kansas that it would be nice to see the Jayhawks start regularly beating BYU in both sports, but of course wins will likely come more frequently in basketball than football. But Utah did, in their first year in the PAC 12, lose as 20 point favorites in football to a team in Colorado that had lost 20 straight road games over four years, so you can hope BYU follows suit losing to Kansas, though you can also hope that Kansas doesn't repeat the long streaks they have previously built!

Meh... Hate is a strong word. Things change over time.

Only school I really hate is byu.... Boise a distant 2nd... everyone else varies. For instance I cheered for SDSU last year vs boise. In the mid 90's I thought I hated Miami.. don't really care now. Really didn't like Pete Carroll's USC ..now meh.. it all changes over time.

I watch USU and occasionally teams they are going to play in a few weeks.

I know lots of people watch any game they can but I don't. It is also why I'm curious what happens to the SEC when they break away and become the semi pro league for the NFL. Some people will watch but I wonder how many.

I like to pay attention to what's going on in college football, even though the only team that can make or break my spirit on any given week resides in Logan, Utah.

That said, if I catch myself thinking about teams from other states and conferences that I hope do well, I tend to throw my support behind the state schools (with a few exceptions).

I'd support Oregon State, Washington State, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, and Mississippi State over their in-state counterparts.

As for the cougars and their new conference affiliation, I hope they go 0-12 every year and that their biggest margin of defeat comes at the hands of Kansas. But hey- that's just me.

Having lived in the Midwest for close to the Midwest I’ve become a fan of the league…especially basketball.

HOWEVER

With byu joining I hope the conference fails. I hope distance becomes an issue. I hope not having a true football blue blood makes them more of the prior big east. I hope the mw has a winning record vs the big 12 like they have the pac10 the last few years. Ultimately I hope the big 12 is viewed as a poor man p5 of rich man g5.

You may be on to something here with the Big 12 becoming more like the MWC but located further east. I don't see a powerhouse of a football school like I used to see in the Big 8. It's also possible the P5 schools will quietly work to reduce the Big 12 to a G5 rating if for nothing else but T V contract money.

It is also likely the school in Provo will soon wear out its welcome as they become the onerous, obnoxious, spoiled child of a member they become in the Skyline, both WAC iterations and the MWC.

I won't hate them but I won't follow them. Nothing interests me more than Kansas battling BYU or Houston vs West Virginia (LOL)

Conferences are losing their appeal at the expense of a TV dollar. At some point conferences will regionalize again. In my lifetime -- I doubt it -- but it will happen.
