Re: Monte McGary
Bummer. Will they try and pick up a late safety to replace him or just roll with the depth we have? Fortunately, I like the safety depth much better than CB or Stryker.

I would guess he has been talking to someone about a landing spot. I thought he played pretty well last year. I wonder why the departure? Best of luck to him.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑June 21st, 2022, 11:37 amGood luck to him. Seems like it is really late in the process to enter the portal.

Monte McGary
That’s too bad as he made some key plays last season, especially the last few games. I’m sure with Hall and Wright transferring in and Tatum back from injury to go along with Reynolds, plus all the young bucks (Larson, Marion, Olevao, Alofipo), he probably didn’t see himself getting much field time. Best of luck to him.

Wow! timing is odd. He has to have something already set up right?
Well, our very deep safety situation just got a little thinner.

I have to think this is in large part due to him losing his starting spot to Gurvan Hall?

I don't think he was going to start. I think with him missing spring ball, he likely fell behind Gurvan Hall, Dom Tatum, Hunter Reynolds, and Ike Larsen.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑June 21st, 2022, 12:01 pmI have to think this is in large part due to him losing his starting spot to Gurvan Hall?

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Re: Monte McGary
People forget a few things.
1) Tatum would have possibly gone to the draft if he wasn’t injured.
2) We got Hall, Larsen, and Hunter.
3) There are DBs that we have looked at along with new DBs.

Re: Monte McGary
Tatum wasn't and will not leave early. I've already mentioned the three in #2. We do have 2 freshman safeties but they weren't going to take playing time from McGary.

Re: Monte McGary
Thanks 22.
I couldn’t agree more.
Tatum was solid but he was nowhere near NFL ready.
In fact you could Argue Mcgary played just as good or even better. He made some huge plays for us during the season especially towards the end. He was a gamer that had great closeout speed and instincts from what I could tell with my untrained eyes. I was always wondering why he didn’t start or play more. I think this will hurt us on the field for sure but I have no idea what/if there were off field issues.

So the 2 deep is dom, ike, hall and Reynolds? That's crazy that monte would fall to the 3 deep with how good he played last year

I think you are referring to the days when either the cops or an adult involved in the situation would first call your parents instead of hauling you in or writing you up because they knew parents would set their kids straight better than the law could.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑June 21st, 2022, 8:05 pmWhatever happened to good old days when there was plenty of non-criminal mischief to get into?

Re: Monte McGary
I don't think you can really count Troy, he was injured in fall camp in 2019 and didn't play 2020 due to covid. Not sure his legal situation, but he's graduated with his bachelor's degree and is working on his master's degree, is engaged and has a kid; again not sure on the situation, but on paper, looks like he had his life together.
