Flights to Alabama

Post by GameFAQSAggie » May 19th, 2022, 6:42 pm

The cheapest flights to Birmingham on Southwest are starting at $216 each way. I personally decided to fly to Orlando on Wednesday and go to the UCF game, then fly to Birmingham on Friday. That wasn't too much more than flying to Birmingham on Thursday or Friday. I literally checked flights from SLC to every city where there is a college football game that Thursday night, along the respective fares from that city to Birmingham and the best one was Orlando.

And I wasn't going to get into Birmingham late Friday night only to go to a morning kickoff game tired like the case when we played at LSU.

You are going to find a hotel room much cheaper in Birmingham than Tuscaloosa. The hotels in Tuscaloosa jack up the rates for weekends of Alabama home games, like all small college towns with few hotels and high demand on game weekends do.

You could just fly into Atlanta and make the drive from there. That’s what we did for the Auburn game over a decade ago. It’s a little longer than the drive to Auburn though…3 hrs vs 1.5.

Flying to Atlanta looks to be just as expensive. Well, they are peanuts cheaper than Birmingham at $208 each way, but that doesn't make up for the extra cost of gas which who knows how high it will climb by then.

I need to pay for my recently installed windows so I get points on my Southwest Visa. Gotta make sure I don't get lazy or forget and end up having tickets get even more expensive.

I’m flying to Dallas. I have a son living there. We will drive to the game via Mississippi. He wants to see the Vicksburg Civil War Memorial, and the Plantation houses in Natchez. We will stay overnight a couple of hours south of Tuscaloosa.

I'd fly into Atlanta unless I can get non-stop into Birmingham. The only direct flight out of DC is American Eagle out of Regan. If that flight is not that expensive I'd take it. Door-to-door it will be much quicker imho.

Flying into Birmingham Friday night. Considering moving it up to Friday morning and spending the day at the Birmingham LDS temple.

If we want to win this thing, we need to access the divine and focus on pleasing as many gods as possible.

Will sleep Friday night and Saturday night in Birmingham.

It’s a 3.5 hour drive from ATL and about an hour drive from BHM. BHM is a lot less busy and very easy to get out of (just went through security today and spent about 10 mins in line, which is long for that airport).

The Birmingham temple is nice and small, but we like it. The Tuscaloosa Temple (Bryant-Denny) offers a much different experience. I’m looking forward to a “home” game- haven’t been to a USU football game since 2006.

A good area to look for hotels in the Birmingham area is Hoover, alabama. Of course their are other areas as well, but Hoover is probably where I’d look first.

Next make sure you get some alabama barbecue.

As far as food goes (I am a law student in Alabama), I would recommend Moes Original, Dreamland, or Saws. All are great vinegar based BBQ places.

Lived in B-Ham for a summer, Saws was the best BBQ we found

Does anybody know if and when Alabama football tix will be available through USU? I made the horrible choice at LSU to wait and buy on the secondary market and I sat towards the top and crisply baked at 118 degrees for a solid 4 hours.

How I envy you young bucks. I recall the days of yesteryear, driving all night long to get to Nebraska, Toronto to Wisconsin, Toronto to Bowling Green, Boston to Army, Boston to Kentucky, Columbia, MO to Little Rock, Columbia to Norman OK, Columbia to to. Mississippi, Pullman to Seattle, Pullman to Boise, Logan to Spokane etc. This year I'll be in front of my TV with a double Sprite. Sigh!

I already scored a ticket on stubhub for the front row on the 40 yard line for $112, which I think is worth paying extra for, and better than you can get though our ticket office.

It's looking like you can get into the game but be in the upper level for $30, but $50 through our ticket office looks like a better deal than the lower level tickets on stubhub, but the price could go down closer to the day of the game.

Tuscaloosa Saturday - then not sure for Sunday/Monday yet - may go to Montgomery for more Civil Rights sights or Hunstville for Rocket/Space Museum or further to Nashville or Atlanta

Well, I've backed out. I bought tickets with points, but it was at really bad hours (redeye arrival in Nashville, super early departure from Birmingham). Car rental and hotel was adding up a lot and it just wasn't looking like it was worth it for such a short trip that would still take the kids out of school for two days.

We bought Lagoon season passes instead. :noidea:
