Seems like an odd lateral move... except when you look at the money.

Re: We're going to need a new DB coach
Never heard too much about him, but from what 22 said he seems like a great coach and I hope he continues to have success wherever he goes.
I think I saw a lot recently of him being in the road recruiting future prospects, so I’m guessing he was a good recruiter too.
Anybody know how long it would take to find a replacement for him? I’m guessing they won’t start searching until after signing day next week so they can focus on the last few days recruiting this cycle.

Re: We're going to need a new DB coach
I think the coaching staff this past year was the equivalent of catching lightening or magic in a bottle. Losing any of them has the potential to hurt. While I wish Coach Brown well, and hope he has a tremendously successful career ahead of him, I'm still sad to see him go. And I thank him him for his contributions to an exceptional year!

I've already spoken with Coach Brown this morning, this WAS NOT an easy decision for him.

DB's really progressed over the course of the season. I thought this would be a major liability going into the year, and was wrong.

I am happy for coach Brown. It will be a good pay increase to go to WSU. I thought his position group really progressed as the season went on. I am confident BA will find a good replacement. I know there is still time for other coaches to get other jobs, but being able to retain the coaching staff has been great so far.

Agreed. After the year we had, I am surprised this is the first departure.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑January 27th, 2022, 1:06 pmI am happy for coach Brown. It will be a good pay increase to go to WSU. I wonder if Banda calls DeMarcus Van Dyke. He was Miami's CB coach last year but is being moved to an off the field spot by Cristobal (at least that is the plan now). He turned down an on field job at FIU is my understanding but this might entice him.
My guess is it goes in a different direction though.

Having another Aggie alum promoted would be cool assuming he has what it takes. Would they also consider our current Defensive GA Tim Burmeister. He has DB playing and coaching experience as well.aggies22 wrote:I would actually be good with that. He's cut this teeth as a GA and a JuCo Coach.

Whether we like it or not it’s a business and these coaches are employees not loyal volunteers . He has every right to take the pay raise that he has earned the same way someone deserves the right to take a promotion at a new company. This is his job and profession if he feels it’s best for him no need to be bitter we should wish him nothing but the best.NavyBlueAggie wrote: ↑January 27th, 2022, 5:59 pmMoney melts morals.... Re: We're going to need a new DB coach
You lose assistant coaches every year, whether you are Snow College or the KC Chiefs. It is a vagabond profession, and most assistants would like to someday have a shot at head coaching. A good head coach keeps the contact information of people that have worked with and would potentially like on the their staff.
Good luck to him.
Good luck to him.

Re: We're going to need a new DB coach
We should feel very fortunate if this is the only assistant we lose, and that's unlikely to happen. Just the NFL head coach openings are going to cause dominoes that could trickle to us, let alone a number of NFL coordinator openings. Michigan just lose their defensive coordinator to the Ravens. And even if Michigan is able to shoot higher than Banda, the team that gets poached by Michigan could go after Banda.

I don't think most (if any) would consider moving from coaching football at Utah State to coaching football at Washington state as a moral issue.NavyBlueAggie wrote: ↑January 27th, 2022, 5:59 pmMoney melts morals.... I’d happily take Shaver back. Not sure how Tulsa’s assistant coaching salaries compare to ours but I know their head coach gets paid considerably more than Anderson. Considering the likely pay differential and the fact he is from Oklahoma, I doubt we could lure him away but it’s worth a shot!aggies22 wrote:Kenrick Shaver is currently at Tulsa. If that's the guy, I like it! A little bit of NFL experience as a player, experience at High School, FCS, and multiple G5 jobs in different parts of the country, and still a young and up and coming coach. Feels like he'd fit right in with the group we've got.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑February 6th, 2022, 5:54 pmNice pickup! I remember his successful college career here for the Cyclones. My question is, can we get him to bring a corner with him? As much as I like Lampkin and Anyanwu, I still feel like we could use more length at that position and at least a little more depth would be nice.

I agree. In looking at various recruiting class summaries from the last week I noticed BYU-Provo signed 4 DB’s all over 6’. Apparently they weren’t rated that high but the coach said he didn’t care because they had the measurables (height, length, and speed).CanuckAggie wrote:If that's the guy, I like it! If those four (4) D B recruits are still on the team when we play them. A good Corner Back can make up height deficiencies with speed, athleticism, game preparation and a good football I Q. Having said that, it's still a lonely position to play.

I'm confused. Given what we know from the DBagginess of yBu players, coaches, fans, students, and administrators, how is it that they only had 4 DBs in their recruiting class?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
