Aggies #8 in Early Group of 5 Top 10 for 2022

Post by AggieBlues » January 14th, 2022, 9:11 pm

From The Athletic: Early college football Group of 5 top 10 for 2022: Cincinnati is still on top, but the New Year’s Six race will be open

1. Cincinnati (13-1 in 2021)
2. Houston (12-2)
3. BYU (10-3)
4. UTSA (12-2)
5. Appalachian State (10-4)
6. Coastal Carolina (11-2)
7. Fresno State (10-3)
8. Utah State (11-3)
The Aggies were one of the biggest surprises in college football in 2021, going from 1-5 to 11-3 with a Mountain West championship and bowl win against Oregon State in head coach Blake Anderson’s first season. Former Arkansas State transfer QB Logan Bonner is back after passing for 3,622 yards. Star receiver Deven Thompkins, who finished second nationally with 1,704 receiving yards, left for the NFL, and the next two receivers are gone as well.

But running back Calvin Tyler Jr. (911 rushing yards) will return as a senior, and the Aggies are again pulling from the transfer portal, adding former Alabama receiver Xavier Williams among four Power 5 transfers thus far. The defense plugged holes with transfers in 2021, and those holes are open again. The defense will face the biggest questions. The Aggies have trips to Alabama and BYU within the first four games.
9. UCF (9-4)
10. San Diego State (12-2)
Just missed: Air Force, Army, UAB, SMU, Louisiana, Boise State, Northern Illinois, Central Michigan

The amount of energy necessary to refute bull pucky is an order of magnitude greater than to produce it.

The UTSA hype is real even after SDSU beat them to end the season...

Nope, because yBu would have been looking to jump ship as soon as they boarded while also sabatoging the ship to sink once they jump elsewhere.

UTSA, being the best team in CUSA would have finished mid-pack in the MWC. That's how much better we are than them.

G5 is the MAC, MWC, AAC, Sun Belt and C-USA. BYU is not part of one of those conferences and is therefore not a G5 school. Just like other schools that are not in a G5 conference (e.g., NMSU and UConn), they are not eligible to take the G5 spot in a New Years Six bowl game.

Just wait until the B12 becomes the new AAC (and the AAC becomes the new CUSA/Sun Belt). ybu will be in a far flung eastern based conference with a hefty price tag to bail from.

Obviously the new Big 12 will not be the same as it was, but for those of us rooting for the downfall of all things BYU and Big 12, we probably need a couple of more things to happen. As of now, the new Big 12 is definitely a step up from all the G5 leagues, and frankly might be better than the PAC 12.

Yea their new tv contract will probably be similar to the MWC.
