Logan Bonner Has Been Impressive

Post by AgMac » November 26th, 2021, 5:47 pm

Honestly, I don't think Logan has got the praise he deserves from our fanbase. Certainly, he makes a few bad decisions here and there, but he's been pretty great this year. Likely to break Love's TD record.. He's got some good receivers that will go up and get the ball, which really helps him, but he's been great.

Extremely happy that we got him this year.

No way we are here without him. Excited for him next year. He makes some throws that you makes you pull your hair out, but to have like 32 tds to 10 ints is a really really good year.

He's one of those guys who somehow has that intangible of figuring out how to win. I think he's done a fantastic job overall this year. He's really taken a beating along with an undue amount of criticism. There is no way we're at 9-3 with any other qb on the roster.

He’s a mediocre QB. Imagine if Peasley had started the whole season. We probably go 12-0 and thump Bama in the natty 42-3.

Bonner is a slightly above average QB who occasionally makes bone-headed throws, but he’s a great team leader. Exactly what we needed this season.

32-10 td/int ratio and close to 3,300 yards passing. That's a very, very good season. Keeton and Love's best years were complimented with 1,000 yard rushers whereas right now, we really don't have a consistent run game.

Nicely done Bonner!!

Didn't he just tie Jordan Love's season total touchdowns today and single game touchdowns?

People are acting like USU has QB's at UsU that always throw for more than 3000 yards with over 30 TD's. He just led this team to a division championship. Some people are acting greedy in my opinion. Sure hope he comes back next year for another year.

I ragged on him half the season but its impossible not to come around to a winner who can stand in there and take the beating he does and deliver. He absolutely needed to improve his deep game to make this work and he figured it out and gets it to where his stud receivers can make a play or get an interference call.

Hats off to him for sure. He has average skills and makes some dumb throws and has stretched of play that drive me crazy but all his other attributes make him far more than average QB. Not many other QBs in the country would have the Aggies at 9-3 IMO.

Logan Bonner Has Been Impressive

Post by CaptainChaos » November 26th, 2021, 9:25 pm

I’d much rather see us play with the lead. He was able to gamble on a few throws today and they paid off. We might not have even seen the best of him because we were playing from behind all year. I know it’s correlational to a degree but he’s probably an even better qb when playing with the lead.

He seems like a great guy. He's had a great attitude. Seems to be a good teammate. He's a good (not great) QB.
Yet, I feel kind of apathetic about him as a fan... Maybe because he was a transfer. Maybe because I'm getting old and cynical. Not sure why.
Too tired to care why right now. I gotta watch Matlock and go to bed.

He threw some great balls today. That first touchdown to Wright was a thing of beauty. A perfectly placed pass.

This is a great point. He is much more than a slightly above average QB. 32 /10 TD to INT isn't slightly above average...it is fantastic.

The fact that his season is comparable to Keeton in 2012 and Love in 2018 is insane to me. Imagine what he could do with the OL play we had either of those years and an NFL back in the backfield like they had.

So far, in passer rating, Bonner is slightly ahead of where Chuckie was that year against must tougher competition with a seive blocking for him.

Bonner is underappreciated here. This thread shows that. I hope we see that change. I'm glad he is an Aggie.

Love was mediocre at best. Any of the backups (especially Peasley) could’ve easily doubled his career stats in probably 1.5 seasons.

Re: Logan Bonner Limitations

Post by Forrest Dupre » November 27th, 2021, 8:33 am

Bonner has put up great numbers against bad pass defenses like New Mexico, San Jose State and Hawaii. But against BYU, Boise and Wyoming, he was 51 for 107 (48%), with 4 TDs and 3 INT. I agree that he's a gritty QB and her throws the quick slants and other short passes well but he has limitations: he doesn't have the arm strength so usually underthrows the long ball and his lack of height sometimes means he doesn't see open receivers downfield when faced with a pass rush up the middle. It'll be interesting to see how he fares against SDSU's pass rush.

How would the wr core look compared to those years. I remember 2018 being pretty talented.

Bonner’s superhero skill is finding a way to win. Sort of like how Bret Farve and Tom Brady have done it. Don’t get lost in the data, this kid is a winner. He is such a tough dude just standing in there punch after punch than shakes it off and punishes his opponents. This may be somewhat controversial but in a tight game I’d rather have him then Love. I know, I know but did you see Washington State destroy Washington on the road last night? That’s right we beat them on the road! Remember those last two drives? Bonner is an all time stud in my book!

In 2012, Keeton had a 1,500 yard rusher in Kerwynn Williams and in 2018, Love had a 1,000 yard rusher with Darwin Thompson. Both NFL running backs I might add.

As far as I’m concerned Peasly had one game. Air Force. Other than that not so much. As for Boise St , BYU and Wyoming. In all three of those games the offensive line was flat out manhandled. I’d don’t know how Bonner got out of bed the next day. The thing is he kept on playing. I’ll take his toughness every time and 3000 yards!!!

You bring up a decent point but the reality is Bonner is a bad-mediocre QB who can’t run or throw very far and is really just starting because of nepotism. Don’t point me to stats or our win-loss record.
