Red-Shirts

Post by BobWilson » November 25th, 2021, 11:23 am

We have more than 25 players red-shirting. Usually these are of two types - players with great potential but who can benefit with a "prep"-year and walk-on-types who will not likely contribute but are making an effort to do so. How do the experts evaluate current Aggie red-shirts? How many will provide immediate help next year?

Thanks.

Two will provide immediate help next year, and they are the Migao brothers, who transferred from BYU. Coach Anderson told us at the luncheon this past week that one, Enoka, would have contributed this year but need a surgery of some kind. So they held them both out because the other one is playing behind Joiner, Vaughn, Henniger and Bannerman, so there was just so where for him to play. He said both will most likely be starters at their respective positions next year.

Safety Dominic Tatum started alongside Shaq Bond in the Washington State game and played well until he suffered an injury late in the third quarter. He will be back to start next year. He is by far the best of all the safeties we have returning, though they have done a good job in his absence.

Other players who I think will return next year to make a good contribution are CB Xavion Steele (could have been in the rotation at corner this year), WR NyNy Davis (Could be the replacement for Thompkins if he doesn't come back), DT Johnson Hansen, TE Broc Lane (2nd on the depth chart at the time of his injury), DT James Hansen, DT Aurion Peoples, and WR Quinton Hadnot. There could be others. We'll have a better sense once the season concludes and some enter the transfer portal, some give up football, etc.

For a complete list of all our transfers, Brian Phillips (Aggies22) has done a great job of assembling the list and where they stand at https://bigblueusuaggienews.com/2021/11 ... gh-wyoming.
