Looking Ahead (MWCCG)
I really hope this ages well, but oh well. Since I'm not on the team, I feel like I can have a little fun looking ahead. Because Fresno already lost to Boise, we can only look at the silver lining, even though I wish Fresno had won to give the Aggies a little cushion.
Although its definitely not a given, I feel like the Aggies have a decent shot at winning out. That would give them an 7-1 conference record. The first criteria to host the championship game is the best conference record.
Looking at the main competition to host, this is what their remaining schedules look like:
USU (4-1) - at SJSU, Wyo, at UNM
Boise (3-2) - Wyo, UNM, at SDSU
SDSU (4-1) - Nevada, at UNLV, BSU
Nevada (4-1) - at SDSU, AF, at CSU
Fresno (4-2) - UNM, at SJSU
Out of those teams, Fresno and the Aggies definitely have the easiest remaining schedules. Assuming the Aggies win out, they just need SDSU and Nevada to both lose at least one. They play each other this week, so there's a loss for one of them, then they both have at least one other difficult game, where I wouldn't be too surprised if the winner of their contest lost. SDSU plays Boise in San Diego and Nevada plays Air Force and at Colorado State.
It's not too far fetched to think that things could fall the Aggies way in terms of hosting the championship. Just in case I'll keep my schedule open for December 4th with my fingers crossed.

Make sure you have your parka ready. I don't think you'll have trouble finding a ticket, though. Interest in sitting through a football game wanes quickly with the cold weather in Cache Valley.HomeTown wrote: ↑November 8th, 2021, 4:06 pmI really hope this ages well, but oh well. Which would be a shame. A 10-2 Aggie team hosting a conference championship game shouldn’t have an empty seat in the stands.Yossarian wrote: ↑November 8th, 2021, 4:12 pmMake sure you have your parka ready. If you come prepared and layered for really cold weather its not too bad. I think it would be a 1:00 kick, so at least it has that going for it.Yossarian wrote: ↑November 8th, 2021, 4:12 pmMake sure you have your parka ready. Re: Looking Ahead (MWCCG)
If we're looking for advantages to the game, I would think we'd want a 7:00 MST kick off with a couple of feet of snow on the ground for SDSU (they'd be in shock). If it was Fresno they'd be a bit more acclimated, Nevada would say "bring it on, our stadium is covered in 3 feet of snow."Yossarian wrote: ↑November 8th, 2021, 4:12 pmMake sure you have your parka ready. The utahstateaggies .com website says the Wyoming game starts at 6 pm. Should be in the 30's at game time. Time to layer up and bring heat packs.

This is where the decision to move the home sideline to the west side of the field is a disadvantage. On a winter afternoon, that east side of the field at least gets some warmth on a sunny day. The west side is in the shadow the entire afternoon and it get chilly on that side.
I really think the Aggies can win out.

Re: Looking Ahead (MWCCG)
Aaaaand as long as we're getting a little over our skis, what will the ticket situation for season ticket holders be if we do host the conference championship game? I'm just assuming we'll have to pay for the game, since it wasn't a previously scheduled regular season game, but can we keep our regular seats (and pay for them, I know)?

Generally the season tickets holders are given the option to buy their normal tickets or upgrade before the general public gets the choice.LKGates wrote: ↑November 8th, 2021, 5:28 pmAaaaand as long as we're getting a little over our skis, what will the ticket situation for season ticket holders be if we do host the conference championship game? I would be there. It for sure would not sell out, but be a solid crowd. If you prepare properly cold games are fine.

Re: Looking Ahead (MWCCG)
I can’t remember the priority, but I remember in 2018 right before the Boise State game, the athletic department sent out an email announcing the process to order tickets for the championship game in case we hosted it (we would have been the host had we won the Boise state game). That obviously didn’t work out, but I remember being pleasantly surprised that the ticket prices would have been fairly reasonable. I could be wrong, but I don’t remember that people would have had the opportunity to buy their season ticket seat locations.LKGates wrote: ↑November 8th, 2021, 5:28 pmAaaaand as long as we're getting a little over our skis, what will the ticket situation for season ticket holders be if we do host the conference championship game? I feel like SDSU is overrated, but I haven't watched them much. I just fear they won't beat BSU, so I think BSU could win out... Meaning we better win out, and I want to be optimistic, but I think we drop one more.
Sorry. Debbie downer moment over, back to looking ahead. I think a Dec 4 game in Logan could be a blast.

I'd love to see those San Diego guys play us in Logan in December just to watch them huddle around the bench heaters all day!
Its a big advantage to play those teams in cold weather.

Oh, don't take my statement as a suggestion that I wouldn't be at the game. I'll be there. I'll just be sporting the Alaska Pipeline welder's down parka and down work bib-overalls that my dad picked up when they completed the pipeline. Al's Sporting Goods had gotten ahold of a bunch of surplus gear from the pipeline construction. Al and Dad were friends, and Al gave him a head's up. Those suckers are guaranteed to minus 60. The only hard part will be fitting in my seat.aggies22 wrote: ↑November 9th, 2021, 4:28 pmI don't give a damn how cold it is.
