Boise/BYU ticket sales

Post by rAggie » September 20th, 2021, 8:49 am

As you can see below, the status of ticket sales between BYU and Boise games are quite different.

The BYU game has about 30 tickets remaining, all singles. There are well over a thousand, maybe much more than that, available for Boise.

One thing it tells us is that there will be a few thousand BYU fans in the stadium. It might also suggest fewer than typical Boise fans making the trip.

But most importantly, we’ve sure hit a wall in marketing this program to this community, and that makes me sad. I’m hopeful they might work some promotional magic this week and we get a good walk up gate but I’m not optimistic we are going to showcase a full house on Saturday morning.

The game on Saturday will be fairly full. Boise has not brought a huge following to Logan for several years. Aggie fans also would prefer to go the BYU game as well. In addition BYU will always bring a lot of fans.

Would be a shame not to have full house in front of the first network nationally televised game in Logan.

Perhaps USU donates the remaining tickets to the Valley High Schools to achieve the sell out??

I think many of the remaining tickets will be sold by Saturday.

How many students show up to a 10 am game though?

All this means is the BYU game will be filled with fans wearing ugly royal blue. This weekend should be sold out by now. I shouldn't be surprised due to such an apathetic local community but it's still disappointing. This game is HUGE! Early Saturday on the CBS mothership against the most hated conference opponent? Come on Cache Valley...get your $hit together.

I plan on driving down from Boise (as I do for most all home games)

The one group I have ZERO concern about turning up is the students. They will be there. This is Utah State, it’s not like they’ll be nursing hangovers at 10 am.

Exactly! There is a camp out on the quad on Friday night as well specifically for the game.

That is awesome to hear. So excited for this game. One of the main reasons is the time of the game. I love to attend day football games. Weather is looking to be in the 70's should be fantastic. While I enjoy attending games during the day there is not much better on Saturday evening than lying on the couch and watching college football.

I believe the available seats on the upper east side are typically all orange anyway. That to me suggests less Boise fans, not a decrease in Aggie fans.

As for BYU fans, do you think when they show up they'll finally realize Todd Noall ripped us off?

Looking at it again It looks Boise may have sent back some of their un sold tickets as well.

I emailed a few weeks ago about buying some suite tickets for the North Dakota game. However, I didn’t get a response.

Oh well, it was still fun watching on TV.

There's an insane amount of tickets left for the Boise game. Seriously, get with it, Logan, UT.

I'll probably buy a few and burn them (as I can't go and don't want to give them away), but I'll keep an eye on the availability. Anything less than a sell-out is an absolute bummer as this team deserves every ounce of hype and support.

Can you explain how buying seats and having them go unused is an expression of support for the game? I understand money helps, but why not just make a donation at that point.

Traditionally day games have been lower attended by students, my guess is work. So if it’s sparse that is why.

Yeah, I can do one or the other, and I'll do one or the other. If it's close to a sell-out, I'd prefer to help USU sell it out. If it's not, I'll probably just make a donation.

Blake was talking to the media about tickets going quickly. Could just be sales pitch, could be legit. I don't know.

It is important to have someone in the seats but more important is the selling of the ticket to get money for the program.

The uneducated would certainly think so, but someday you will gain a higher level of understanding that having empty seats actually provides our team with a stronger feeling of support from the community. I have heard coach after coach say on radio interviews how much they love to see empty seats in the stands as long as the money is still coming in.

I won’t be able to make it this weekend. Pre-arranged Family reunion in SLC…

I’m happy to help buy tickets for someone else to attend if finances are a concern. Shoot me a PM.

I think you should relocate the family reunion to Logan, specifically Merlin Olsen Field at Maverik Stadium

I tried to plant these very seeds over the weekend. Unfortunately, not gonna happen. Far too few sports fans in my wife’s family.

I guess you can tell everyone you just need to go get some bbq items for the reunion and go to the bbq truck in the Maverik

As of tuesday it looks like there is maybe 100-200 tickets left so they are going pretty quickly. There are quite a few single tickets that folks can "donate".

It's nice that all those byu-p fans bought our extra tickets for us, maybe they can grab all the available Boise tickets too.

Wrong. Cache valley people are awful. Downright unbelievable that they aren’t as committed as those of us on this board to college athletics. How dare they.

This is a numbers game not in our favor:

With an estimated 128,289 in Cache County and another 13,876 in Franklin County Idaho in Cache Valley, the valley is small. At 142,165 residents in Cache Valley, we're just 5% of the size of the 2,606,548-resident Wasatch Front. If we want more people in attendance, we need to effectively reach them not only in the valley but along the Wasatch front.

Utah State is the biggest show in town. When you get down to the Wasatch Front, people have more options from which to choose. I think the value proposition is that you can get out of town, go to a game, have a good time, all for less than it would cost to go to a game in Salt Lake.

Utah State struggles with this on our enrollment as well. I've been tracking our enrollment numbers released alongside other universities every October. Utah State's enrollment has been stagnant relative to faster-growing schools like Dixie State, SUU, UVCC (UVU), Weber State, and Utah. Our alumni base is taking up a proportionally smaller segment of the college graduates. Fewer alumni make it even harder to fill stadiums.

Our athletic and broader marketing and recruitment teams have a Wellsville Mountain/Sardine Canyon-sized barrier to overcome.

I'm doing my part and flying up to the Boise game this weekend. Can't wait to be there and say hi to Logan.

I've long thought USU should have much more of a presence than it does in SE Idaho.

It definitely isn't non-existent though- my boy is a middle schooler in preston and at the UND game he said he saw tons of kids from his school there. I mean look at the numbers- Franklin County doesn't even reach USU enrollment numbers.

Bear Lake and Oneida Counties ought to be and probably are decent USU feeder areas.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

That's fair. I'm thinking a little further north into Pocatello and Idaho Falls. USU is the closest FBS school to those areas. A decent percentage of my high school (Idaho Falls) attended USU, and you see the occasional flag or two around the area. All you see in the stores here though is Cougar gear and Bronco gear, and you can't get Aggie games on over-the-air radio here.
