Savon Scarver

Post by ROLLEOVERHORDEMANN » September 22nd, 2021, 1:46 pm

Give me a reason why Scarver starts?

Over Wright? Over KVL? I would love to see KVL get more snaps, that kid is a playmaker, and yes I know KVL is a slot receiver but he could play the outside I believe.

I really can’t think of any reason beyond seniority and maybe being a good leader for the team. Not that I would be starting him for those reasons, but can’t imagine they actually think he’s their best option at the WR spot.

There is ZERO reason. My only guess is that the threat of his speed is being used to make the defense have to account for him.

KVL definitely looks like an interior receiver, so I can understand why Scarver would get the nod over him...

...but Derek Wright is a dadgum revelation. Great routes, big body, and good hands. I love Savon, but he has never really materialized as a WR (especially when compared to his KR ability).

Wright should play WR ahead of Savon he is a better receiver in my opinion. Savon has not materialized which is sad because he has elite speed.

I'm shocked Nathan has been used so sparingly. I'd rather have him out there than Scarver as a WR.

Yeah, without a doubt he is 10x the receiver that Scarver is.

Scarver, I don't know. Not a receiver. A good kick returner, but I wish he would use some speed earlier in the return. He just seems to be jogging into it. I know he's looking for a seam to burst through, but it drives me nuts.

I'll calm down if he returns one for a TD soon. :)

I hope he breaks a couple or a few this year. He's done great in his career so far.

So many better receiver options though!

He may not be a starter in a very deep WR group, but there has to be some play calling that would allow us to use his skill sets?? How about an end-around? Same goes from Jordan. Open up the playbook coach.

I think we'll see the reverse to Scarver at some point. It is the play that best puts him in a kick return situation with a blocking scheme set for one side of the field and allows him to use his vision to find a seam or break a run up the sideline.

Not bad ideas at all but don't open up the playbook too soon! I guarantee NOBODY saw that shovel pass on fourth down to Carson Terrell coming. You have to pick your spots.

Can't argue with Wright. KVL is what 5'8''? Probably more of a slot guy. Seems we have a glut of talent at the slot position (including one of the best receivers in the country) and are (somewhat) thinner on the outside.

Regardless, that group has been amazing this year! Especially considering the injuries at TE. Hats off to coach Tucker and Cefalo!

Does anyone know if Nance is going to just play in the 4 game max and redshirt? I was impressed with his speed and ability in the fall. I gotta think he’s currently in line to start opposite McGriff next year with KVL in the slot (assuming DT leaves for the NFL after a monster year).

Nance redshirted at Nebraska already.

The dude has legitimate track speed. I'm hoping that it translates to the football field and he is able to contribute heavily as early as next season. We are losing a lot of production following this season, somebody needs to do it!
