A not unlikely scenario...

Post by LKGates » September 19th, 2021, 4:06 pm

We may lose to Boise, and still be division champions and play in the conference championship game.

This year, we have the soft half of the west division, UNLV, San Jose, and Hawaii. Boise has the tough half, SDSU, UNR, and CSU-Fresno. Division champion is determined by conference record, not division record. If our only conference loss is Boise, and they lose to SDSU and CSU-Fresno, we'll be the division champions.

I'm not saying this is likely, but the way things are shaping up, it isn't at all out of the question.

That's certainly possible. And if their defense is susceptible to the run like some are saying, don't forget about Air Force either.

However, the chances we don't lose another conference game no matter the result of the Boise game are fairly small. There is a decent chance we would drop another one. But, if we were to pull off a victory this week, we could probably even afford to lose 2 games and still have a good chance of being in the championship.
