Notes From Colorado Springs
AF is my favorite MW football opponent. Winning in Colorado Springs is tough. AF is disciplined and strong and smart. Last time we played at Air Force (in 2019), we laid an egg, losing 31-7 in one of the single worst Aggie efforts I've ever seen. Two years before that (in 2017), we lost 38-35, and two years before that (in 2015), we lost 35-28.
Last night was a watershed moment for this team. Stopping AF on a running play on 4th down in the 4th quarter on the road was HUGE. I was sitting on the first row, almost exactly in line with the ball and the chains, and I honestly couldn't tell if AF had a first down or not. It was extremely close, but our defense ended up making some HUGE stops when we needed them.
Justin McGriff is one of my favorite Aggies ever. 6'6 Junior. Tons of intensity. Doesn't mind talking back a little bit... The cadets were all over our guys all night (I was sitting directly adjacent). After we sealed the game, McGriff went over and clapped back at them [actual language used by Mr. McGriff intentionally omitted by the author...]. I loved it. It felt nasty, and mean, and intense, and full of Aggie Pride (all things that were missing in 2019 in 2020), and I loved it. I'm a McGriff fan forever.
Peasley was absolutely clutch as well. He's slippery and confident, and he doesn't seem to pay too much attention to the fact that he *might* be the QB2 on the depth chart. Thompkins deserves some love here as well. Meacham deserves a nod too for coming in as a back-up and serving dutifully on the line.
This is a very good football team that wants to show up (ahem...), win games, work their butts off, and prove everyone wrong. It was an incredibly ballsy, gritty, and grindy team effort in the win last night, and I loved it.
Everything that happened in 2019 and 2020 is forgiven and forgotten.

McGriff had hands of stone last year, but this year he is slowly winning me over.

His hands are still pretty questionable, but he blocks like he wants to and is improving, so I'm trying to forgive a few drops
Go Aggies!

Definitely a tough place to play. The cadets are always awesome. It seemed like the rest of the stadium was pretty empty. How may people do you think were there. With as much success as they have, you would think they would draw more.

It’s mandatory for cadets to be there. Same with midshipmen. It’s essentially part of their formation. But it’s good they’re having fun while at it. I’m not sure if it’s a requirement at West Point.Olderthandirt wrote: ↑September 19th, 2021, 8:06 pmDefinitely a tough place to play. The cadets are always awesome. I don’t think either school qualifies for FBS without making attendance mandatory. USNA isn’t as big of a deal in Annapolis as one may think. USU has a much bigger impact on the community in Logan than USNA does here in Annapolis.

94 on their defense is one intense guy!
Got to hand it to them for the no excuse attitude. Quite frankly they moved up a notch in my book after watching that.

They announced the attendance at the game around 20,600 or so.Olderthandirt wrote: ↑September 19th, 2021, 8:06 pmDefinitely a tough place to play. The cadets are always awesome. Yeah, that's gotta be me. Couldn't sing in church yesterday and my voice is still scratchy today.AGinNEIowa wrote: ↑September 19th, 2021, 2:53 pmI'm pretty sure I could hear you on the broadcast. They announced 20,264, but that seems a bit ambitious.Olderthandirt wrote: ↑September 19th, 2021, 8:06 pmDefinitely a tough place to play. The cadets are always awesome.
