ESPN video quality

Post by ineptimusprime » September 18th, 2021, 11:09 pm

Is freaking awful. The BYU-ASU game looks like it’s in standard definition.

The Fox and CBS Sports video quality is overwhelmingly better.

Thought it was only me but the BYU people I asked said it “looks great to me”

It was the same thing last week. I wonder if BYU has it’s own camera’s?

It is really bad. Not as bad as the play on the field though with both teams bending over backwards to lose. ASU has 16 penalties and 4 tos and still has a chance. The zoobs aren't that good.

I don’t say this to crap on BYU, but it’s 720p at best, and doesn’t even fill the entire TV screen (the picture and bottomline aren’t flush). I feel like I’m watching a game from 2005.

What cracked me up was the graphic they kept showing on the bottom of the screen the said something like "College Football Prime Time". Maybe I don't understand what prime time is but I wouldn't consider a game that ends at 2 am eastern "prime time". But I'll bet all the byu fans love being the main event on prime time on espn.

I could be mistaken here, but I believe ESPN uses BYU’s cameras and production for home games as part of their contract. Their game against Utah looked horrid as well. ESPN broadcasts typically look phenomenal from a camera standpoint.
