Utah on the schedule again?

Post by NowhereLandAggie » June 22nd, 2021, 9:48 pm

PAC-12 mulls reducing conference schedule to 8 games.

Yes, I know there are a lot of other reasons why they don't play anymore, but with a new AD, it could be possible in the future again.

Hope they start playing regularly again. I could see Utah trying to big time USU and saying "yeah we'll play if it is in SLC, but we aren't going to Logan" which I assume would mean a no go from our Athletic Department.

The series needs to return for hoops regardless of the football decision. There is no excuse that Utah State and Utah aren't playing every year in basketball.

Utah’s AD has told many privately that there is no reason for them to play us, but if they did, it will only be in Salt Lake. So I would pretty much say we won’t be playing Utah.

Not sure why we would want to play a mid- level Pac-12 anyway. I'd rather play Alabama.

In that case, they better be paying us $1.5M and make that our money game. I could live with that.

We really need to get off this topic. We will never play Utah in football again. That’s just the new reality.

I’d rather play another p5 like Washington, Wisconsin, USC, or any other big name. Utah to me is like playing Washington state, Oregon state, wake Forrest, those are teams we should be looking to get home and home deals with.

I don't anticipate it will happen, as indicated in my original post.

However, 20ish years ago Val Hale said BYU would also never play USU again. That didn't hold, particularly since he was canned.

If Utah has an extra game, and they are dying to play Northern Illinois, Wyoming, and SJSU, they may realize that USU is a cheaper game and will sell more tickets.

The college athletic scene is constantly changing, and this may lead the powers at be to reevaluate. Probably won't happen, but with 4 OOC games and private negotiations, things can and do change.

I am not even sure how beneficial it is, beating both instate schools in the same season is extremely difficult in the first place.
