Salt Lake Tribune's coverage of the scrimmage
Here's the hard hitting analysis we get from our Trib reporter who had a chance to interview Coach Anderson after the game about the scrimmage:

How is it the Coach’s concern or responsibility to make sure people are masked up?

Re: Salt Lake Tribune's coverage of the scrimmage
I miss Tony Jones. I even miss Kyle Goon.
Any other attendance policies he wants to tattle about? Were people in the correct seats? Anyone illegally parked?
Grand total of two tweets about the game (the halftime score and final score which are about the least useful pieces of info from a spring game) but a bunch of back and forth defending asking the head coach about what the people in the crowd are wearing.

You have to love that he didn't let the reporter bait him into getting the "Those fans are irresponsible idiots to not wear masks" out of him that he tried to!

And to top it off the "reporter" has an incredibly annoying voice. It all adds up to be kinda funny.

In other news Kyle Goon is reporting Jordan Love has a shot at being a first time pick.

That is literally the stupidest interview question i have heard. I'm in no way anti-mask, I'm vaccinated, and I'd encourage other people to go get vaccinated. This kind of crap drives me insane though! Virtually everyone I saw in the stadium was wearing a mask. It's the Spring Game, if they weren't wearing one they almost certainly 10+ feet away from any other group there. What a stupid question for the Coach when you are there to cover a football team! I feel no sympathy for their paper slowly dying!

Wasn't this game played outside?
Does the reporter have some data on the effectiveness of wearing a mask outside that the rest of the world doesn't know about? Has the reporter seen a sports ball game before in his life? Did he he drive to Logan in a Subaru, by chance?

It was a dumb question, and that wasn't the time for it, nor was Coach Anderson the right person to ask about it. But I don't get why so many people are so worked up and offended over this. It's not that big of a deal.
Also, if you ever find yourself online making fun of the way someone talks or directly replying to a reporter on Twitter with personal attacks and insults just because you don't like the way they do their job, it might be time to log off.

Re: Salt Lake Tribune's coverage of the scrimmage
I don’t think anyone is offended beyond it’s insulting this is the coverage we get from the Tribune. I’d rather have them not send anyone than send this guy if this is what he chooses to focus on.stang wrote: ↑April 18th, 2021, 12:25 amIt was a dumb question, and that wasn't the time for it, nor was Coach Anderson the right person to ask about it. Re: Salt Lake Tribune's coverage of the scrimmage
I agree with it not being appropriate to make personal attacks. That being said, I am pretty sure this is the same guy who asked the coaches in the pre-NCAA tournament interviews how they packed for the tournament (referring to the fact that they could go home after game 1 or be there for several weeks if they keep winning). Does anyone really care how many pairs of underwear players and coaches bring with them to the tournament? Do we need to know if it is 5 pairs compared to 10? Or how frequently they will need to do laundry if they have volcanic diarrhea? I am not on Twitter because I have more important things to do in life (like reading and commenting on this board), so I don’t know what was said to him directly, but someone who does this for a career should probably be more capable of asking better questions.stang wrote: ↑April 18th, 2021, 12:25 amIt was a dumb question, and that wasn't the time for it, nor was Coach Anderson the right person to ask about it. Re: Salt Lake Tribune's coverage of the scrimmage
Yeah even if you are the strictest person alive on mask use, it isn't the coaches job to police the crowd for masks. Personal attacks aren't good, but this guy clearly doesn't really care about USU football if that is what he is focused on when interviewing the coach.Intermeddler wrote: ↑April 18th, 2021, 1:17 amI don’t think anyone is offended beyond it’s insulting this is the coverage we get from the Tribune. Surprise surprise, I don't know Coach Anderson and will probably never get to ask him a question directly. Since that is my situation, I rely on the media to ask good questions to keep me informed. He didn't do a good job there.

The thing that bothers me and this is also where our society is going is the “gotcha” crowd. If you are not conforming to the current status quo you are called out and labeled.

Re: Salt Lake Tribune's coverage of the scrimmage
This entire thread is embarrassing for USU fans.
What a terrible look a lot of you are presenting by bullying and harassing a reporter. Was the question great? Maybe not, but who knows whether it is part of a bigger story that is being worked on.
If you feel the need to give feedback, do it in a constructive way. We’ve got people saying he sucks at his job, they need to send another reporter, one guy on Twitter even made a creepy reference to being at the game with a gun.
I guarantee we aren’t all perfection in our jobs day to day, and if you had the peanut gallery questioning everything you did and telling you that you are terrible every time you do something sub-optimally, it would get old fast. It is days like this I realize there is an underbelly of USU fans who are exactly as awful as BYU and Utah folks constantly allege.

Re: Salt Lake Tribune's coverage of the scrimmage
I see the moral police has weighed in now. Once again embarrassed of being an Aggie because people don't say and act the way he would prefer. It must be so disappointing for him to live in such an imperfect world. I don't know what was said on Twitter or even the comments on the SLTrib site. The comments in this thread are benign. It was a stupid question and it's none of the reporter's business to ask it of the coach or the coach's business to address it. People that couldn't attend would like to know the coach's thoughts on how the team looked in the scrimmage. Can you not understand the frustration?

I'm surprised this dude didn't ask a question about Craig Smith. He clearly had the intent of being antagonistic.

Re: Salt Lake Tribune's coverage of the scrimmage
I will go one step further, this was the dumbest question a reporter has asked in my opinion. Coach A has no control or cares less about masks in the stands. How about ask what stood out about spring ball or what areas we need to improve upon going into summer conditioning.Yossarian wrote: ↑April 18th, 2021, 11:10 amI see the moral police has weighed in now. If you are going to have someone cover the aggies at least make sure they are relavant.

Ask Andy Larsen (jazz reporter for the trib) and $1000. Seems to be something the trib supports.

We have a right to say a reporter covering Aggie football didn't ask good questions as we discuss USU football on an Aggie message board. As I said before, I don't know Coach Anderson so I do rely on the sports media for information on the football program. He didn't do a good job there.rAggie wrote: ↑April 18th, 2021, 11:00 amThis entire thread is embarrassing for USU fans.

Some of the fan policing on this board is getting tiring. Luckily it is only a few posters who really do it. Yes there are things that can cross the line on here, but saying a reporter covering the Aggies didn't do a good job isn't one of them.

This would have been a great Matt Wells spot.
Reporter: What about all the fans with no masks ?
Matt Wells :.......... (Stares with a you cant be this dumb look )
Reporter : I mean most the fans didnt have a mask coach. What are your thoughts ?
Matt Wells : Ask a better question.
Reporter: Should fans wear masks?
Matt Wells : Moving on. Anybody else ?
Matt did some things I didnt like but man did he know how to make a reporter feel dumb about dumb questions.

Can you imagine a reporter asking nick saban that question after their spring game. He probably would have been polite like BA.
