Does anyone remember......
....what was Bobby Wagner’s and Robert Turbin’s star ratings coming out of HS, and did other schools recruit them?
Every time I see a ** rating on a commit I think “can’t we do better than that? “. And then I think of many players who played at USU as ** athletes who played or are now playing in the NFL. I KNOW, I KNOW, the star rating system is flawed to a point. And we can only survive by being a player developmental program.

Re: Does anyone remember......
The star ranking has evolved since the early 2000s but I would assume a 2 star or no star.

So here is a cheat sheet on what star ratings mean from what I have heard. 22 probably knows better and should correct me if I am wrong.mcaggie1 wrote: ↑March 24th, 2021, 11:50 am....what was Bobby Wagner’s and Robert Turbin’s star ratings coming out of HS, and did other schools recruit them?

5 star - Expected to be a starter/contributor on a P5 team as a freshman/sophomore.
4 star - Expected to be a starter/contributor on a G5 team as a freshman/sophomore. Expected to be a starter/contributor on a P5 team as a junior/senior.
3 star - Expected to be a starter/contributor on a FCS team as a freshman/sophomore. Expected to be a starter/contributor on a G5 team as a junior/senior.
2 star - Expected to be a starter/contributor on a FCS team as a junior/senior.
But My understanding is that Wagner and Turbin were 2 star guys.

Thank you both. When you consider Wagner...the whole system gets shot to hell. Re: Does anyone remember......
There are obviously exceptions but it’s not coincidence that Alabama, Ohio State and Clemson sign the top classes every year and then play for the national championship.

I thought it looked phallic in nature, and I agree, we’ve had a few Richards on the team.

Re: Does anyone remember......
Both Bobby Wagner and Robert Turbin were 2* recruits. Also Kerwynn Williams and Michael Smith were as well.mcaggie1 wrote: ↑March 24th, 2021, 11:50 am....what was Bobby Wagner’s and Robert Turbin’s star ratings coming out of HS, and did other schools recruit them?

Wagner, a future HOF player was rated as the 2036th best player in the country that season and the 161st best LB in 2008. He had no other FBS offers.

Robert Turbin was the 100th rated RB and the 1543rd player. He also had no other offers.

Thank you "Green" as I hadn't seen this definition until now. Probably should spend more time on the board though....

Re: Does anyone remember......
Yep. There are obviously 2 star players who become superstars and 5 star players who become busts, but as a whole I'll take a group of 4 and 5 star recruits. Alabama obviously wins the national title routinely, but before that they land the top rated recruiting class. In 2021 the top 2 recruiting classes were Alabama and Ohio State. It is no coincidence the teams playing in the national title game recruit the best.

Re: Does anyone remember......
I thought I remembered that Turbin was heavily recruited by several P5 programs, but as a DB. He picked USU because we were willing to play him as a RB.

I believe that is correct. Not sure if he was officially offered but had interest as a db.YouTossedEight wrote: ↑April 14th, 2021, 8:09 pmI thought I remembered that Turbin was heavily recruited by several P5 programs, but as a DB. He picked USU because we were willing to play him as a RB.

Yeah, I was told he was offered a scholarship at Oregon, but they wanted him to be DB.YouTossedEight wrote: ↑April 14th, 2021, 8:09 pmI thought I remembered that Turbin was heavily recruited by several P5 programs, but as a DB. He picked USU because we were willing to play him as a RB.
