Tackling

Post by flying_scotsman2.0 » March 23rd, 2021, 1:02 pm

First of all, I love the mic'd up videos of this staff. Cefalo was especially fun to watch. Listen to Banda get after a dude while they are practicing tackling. I think our tackling will be improved this season.

Better technique + improved S&C program and I think you're onto something.

Nice to see a clear adoption of "rugby tackling" being made. Feel like tackling over the past few years has been all over the place. Paying attention to the little stuff, like a unified tackling approach, will make sure that the big stuff (buying into scheme, knowing assignments, etc) takes care of itself.

I sure hope tackling is improved this year. This past season tackling was very poor.

You mean watching someone walk into the endzone is considered poor tackling? Then yes, we were very poor at tackling.

Banda is fun to watch coach! A lot of energy and it looks like he relates well with the boys.

If you talk to Coach Banda about his defensive philosophy, the number one thing that he emphasizes over and over again is that this group is going to be excellent at tackling. You can see it in that video, but much of spring camp for the defense has been working on exactly that. It's definitely a breath of fresh air after seeing our defense miss easy tackles while using the form of junior high players the past couple of seasons.

I agree. Watching him in the monster costume during the team competition activity was hilarious.
