Super Seniors

Post by Aggie702 » March 1st, 2021, 4:19 pm

Looks like we will have the most "super seniors" (i.e.,players who would have been out of eligibility after the 2020 season, but are taking advantage of the NCAA granting an extra year to all fall athletes because of the pandemic) in the conference with 19. Hopefully it helps us rebuild quickly.

Here's the number per school in conference:

MOUNTAIN WEST

Air Force - 0.
Boise State - 8.
Colorado State - 13.
Fresno State - 12. Notable: Leading rusher RB Ronnie Rivers.
Hawaii - 14.
New Mexico - 14.
Nevada - 11. Notable. Second team all-Mountain West LB Lawson Hall.
San Diego State - 10. Notable: RB Greg Bell, second leading rusher in conference.
San Jose State - 12. Notable: QB Nick Starkel.
Wyoming - 7.
UNLV - 11. Notable: Leading rusher RB Charles Williams.
Utah State - 19.
Total: 131.

Aggies with 19 were the highest number of all conferences listed in the article. Florida Atlantic next with 18.

Makes senses given the 2020 results.

Blake Anderson was named as HC on 12 Dec. Factor in Christmas/New Year break, relocating themselves and their families, they jumped out of the blocks quick smart. Impressive stuff.

Looking forward to Spring ball.

I'm guessing whoever wrote this article went strictly off what is currently listed as our roster on the official website. It's wrong. By my count we have 17. And that includes Brandon Bowling, Kyle Mayberry, Justin Rice and Jahaziel Lee.

I'll take a stab at these 17 and then Aggies 22 can correct me:
1-Bowling
2-Mayberry
3-Rice
4-Lee
5-Bond
6-Scarver
7-Nathan
8-Wright
9-Meitz
10-Bannerman
11-Aliifua
12-Pada
13-Terrell
14-Fata
15-DHC
16-Heninger
17-Moore

Nice topic and stats, thanks for sharing. Even at 17 we would be like the second most super seniors in the country behind Florida Atlantic with 18. For contrast, BYU only has 1 super senior and Utah has 11. This kinda makes sense as BYU played pretty much a full season and Utah hardly played any games. The number of super seniors may not be as important as who those super seniors are. For us I think we return some key contributors and also some of the super seniors are transfers/grad transfers that look to fill key starting spots. I think BA and his staff did a great job of filling immediate holes with experienced players and should help us compete right away. Who are the "notable" super seniors that everyone feels will have the greatest impact on our performance next season?

I'm pretty sure Pada moved on. You're missing Sean Carter. Unless he was not asked back and I missed it.

Notables. Justin Rice, Jahaziel Lee, Kyle Mayberry, Demytrick Ali'ifua, Carson Terrell, Jordan Nathan, Nick Heninger, Shaq Bond and Marcus Moore. All probable starters which is why I listed them.

I wouldn’t want last season to be my last season as a football player either. I’m sure all of them are looking for something to wipe last year out of their memory banks.

Unless Heninger is an incredible kid and athlete who is very, very well-respected by his teammates and this coaching staff, and fans on a message board don’t know nearly as much as they think they do about him and his situation.

22, I’ve heard Justus Te’i is not returning this season. He’s still on the online roster so it’s possible that I’m wrong, have you heard anything of the sort?

That's a pretty talented list to be honest. Lots of contributors and leaders in there. This transition year may end up yielding a pretty good season if they can all catch on and buy into BA's system. There are likely 4-5 all conference level players in there (1st, 2nd, honorable mention,...). Can't wait to see/hear how they come together between now and September.

His fingerprints are all over the strike action last fall. It was reported he was the draftsman.

It will be interesting to see Anderson manage the expectations of the Super Seniors. Figure most of them think they are locked in as starters.......Can Anderson keep them engaged and the locker room positive if/when they end up riding pine?

If i was a starter on a team that played a poorly as the Aggies did last year, i certainly wouldn't feel confident i was going to get my job back.
