FCS Spring Football

Post by brownjeans » January 30th, 2021, 8:27 am

I just realized the FCS season is about to start. Maybe it's the novelty of it, but I feel more interested in watching FCS football than I ever have.

But there is no way they can play in the spring and still have a season in the fall right? We heard that over and over from the "experts" that said it couldn't be done for the FBS.

Are these the same “experts” who claim an all-inclusive playoff cannot be done at the FBS level, even though it is done at EVERY SINGLE OTHER LEVEL on the entire planet?

When you are the only girl at the party, it doesn't really matter what you look like. I will be following Weber football more than usual.

Well lets see you fplks think it is a good idea to play in the spring with covid still limiting crowd size ? Play 2 seasons in one year. I doubt you folks understand the wear and tear that would have on the players. There are BSC schools that will not play this spring and some like the Montana schools that have reduced that season to only a few games
, by doing that they removed themselves from the Fcs playoffs. IMHO spring football in a bad deal.

I don't know, maybe they should make it permanent.

You do understand the difference I ment between practice and games. I do not even like spring practice, but to hold two seasons in one year is just silly. It is tough on players and fans just may get bored with 20 games a year. I also would be concerned with Feb. football in Logan or gasp Laramie.

My brother (a Weber grad) suggested the same thing. I think there are two major hurdles to such a step:

1) weather. They'd need to start later to make sure a huge swath of the country could play with fans while making it enjoyable.

2) Money games. How many FCS programs need their body bag game to stay afloat?

I don't fully disagree, but I am speaking as a fan. I didn't choose to push their season to the Spring. They made that choice.

I think the FCS leagues postponed to spring, along with the FBS leagues considering it, thinking or at least hoping the pandemic would be over, and we would be done with social distancing and back to full stadiums and the risk and precautions would be over. But when it became obvious that wasn't happening, and it was social distance football in fall or social distance football in spring, the FBS leagues chose fall social distance football.

I can’t bring myself to do that. I would rather watch Aggie games from the past. Also baseball starts in April. YES!!!!

Maybe it's my proximity and multiple visits to the UNI dome, but I really enjoy watching FCS. The Panthers were hot back in the early 2000's and got me as a fan. In those years UNI and UNH played in the playoffs a couple years in a row, @NHAggie and I were able to have some friendly banter around those games.

I hope that lots of the games are on TV. I love
