Honestly, I'm surprised he's coaching at all.

I was hoping he would follow frank to boise...

Following Harsin is almost as good though.

A lot worse places to build your career than Auburn.

USU last year would be one of those places that is a lot worse...

I hope he does well and works his way back into the coaching ranks. He always came across to me as a really good, hard working dude who really wanted to win, but he clearly wasn’t ready to be taking over an offense. Auburn will be a good spot for him.

Did he do some bad, for cause things here or something? He took a huge demotion so it isn’t that surprising, is it?

Only thing that comes to mind is he just basically up and quit mid season. I don't know the circumstances that there were behind the decision or if he truly quit or was let go. If he did in fact just quit that is a very bad look for a coach to just up and quit mid season.

Definitely a bad look if he just quit. Maybe he was on the downlow fired or "asked not to come back" with a few games left.

If it is true he quit and it is true GA quit, we might have had the biggest team of quitters in college football history. The coach quits, the OC quits, the players quit and the interim coach supported them quitting. Damn, not exactly a team you tell your kids to emulate. Glad we are in a new chapter.

I agree and that is why I put "if" before mentioning Gary.

I wish Reeder well. Obviously I wasn't impressed with him, but we had a very small sample size. Maybe he can get his career going again.

How was Gary fired? Based on the DesNews article it was all Gary just walking away and from the money. :stirpot:

I've been pretty silent about this whole Gary thing. Some of you noticed, maybe some of you didn't. I will say this. Does anyone REALLY believe that he walked away from not just one school but TWO??

I believe Gary was fired twice. I also believe the ADs were nice enough to paint his termination in a positive light. I also think that something in his behavior was the ultimate cause. We have the texts and voice recordings from OSU. All we have at USU are some veiled comments.

Amazing to have a coach fired and your OC quit and never a word about it. We must have the most passive boosters ever or they hired their buddy and want it quiet.

Andersen certainly has benefitted from his buddy being the AD at Oregon State and having friends in the Athletic Department at USU.

I could see the influential boosters wanting this to be done and moved on from as fast as possible. Partly because they hired their buddy and partly because they care about USU and want to move on for sake of damage to the program.

The lone booster of influence knew a mistake had been made. The booster of influence gets no $hit from me because to my knowledge he's NEVER thrown his weight around when he certainly probably could have. I've also heard that the same lone booster of influence made a sizable contribution in order to increase the pool of money available for assistants to make up for it.

Additionally worth noting that without that lone booster, we'd probably look a lot more like New Mexico State right now than Colorado State.

I think it was worth it for the increased coaching budget. I’m really happy with what we’ve ended up with. No hyperbole, I think this is the best coaching staff on paper that we’ve ever had.

Amazing to have a coach fired and your OC quit and never a word about it. We must have the most passive boosters ever or they hired their buddy and want it quiet.
You could not be more right. Without him we would literally be hanging on by a single thread and maybe not even that.

It really was THAT bad. Even more impressive to see how quickly things have been positive since. Strong new coaching staff, impressive batch of transfers coming in, and a new culture getting established.

Obviously it won’t mean anything until we see the results on the field. But the fact it’s been so hopeful so quick after hitting an all-time low is incredible.

All time low? For us old timers things have definitely been much worse.
