4-star recruit with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and Florida State coming out of high school. I say we give him a chance.

Re: New Commit! (Patrick Joyner Jr.)
Is this our highest rated recruit ever?
Nevermind, I was going off the 4* rating by ESPN, according to his 247 rating, he will be our second highest rated recruit ever.

It's going to be a lot of fun getting to watch all of these newcomers! I can't imagine another instance of this much roster fluctuation (especially for the better).

Re: New Commit! (Patrick Joyner Jr.)
Will he play DE for us then? Hopefully he's a bit bigger now than 225 if so.
Also, as a sophomore in 2020, with the wacky 2020 rules does that mean he has 2 to play 2 or 3 to play 3?

Re: New Commit! (Patrick Joyner Jr.)
With the wacky rules, he SHOULD be getting a medical redshirt for missing the 2019 season with an injury. That would give him 3 more years to play.3rdGenAggie wrote: ↑January 11th, 2021, 3:24 pmWill he play DE for us then? Hopefully he's a bit bigger now than 225 if so.

Re: New Commit! (Patrick Joyner Jr.)
So far, I think we're like half and half, right?
1 to play 1: Mayberry, Bowling, and Rice
2 to play 2 or better: Bonner, Joyner, Vaughns, and Peoples (traditional JC transfer)

Re: New Commit! (Patrick Joyner Jr.)
A kid I knew from my high school who was a few years younger than me walked on at Miami and eventually got on scholarship this past season as a guard. I wonder if he'd be willing to transfer

We just want him to get our offensive line to look like Alabama’s. Did you see those guys? HUGE! And they could move.

Here's the thread on a Miami forum about this:

Interesting to read the comments. A lot of folks say he is a tweener that bounced around LB and DE. He just never found his place at Miami.

Re: New Commit! (Patrick Joyner Jr.)
That's pretty true. Came in as a LB. Had some fairly significant injuries and never materialized. Not fast enough for LB and Miami had a lot of good depth at DE the last few years so he never got on the field. He played maybe 30-40 plays all year and has 6 career tackles. So there isn't much I can say about his production.BLUERUFiO wrote: ↑January 12th, 2021, 11:09 amHere's the thread on a Miami forum about this:

Personally, as a Miami/USU fan, if he is coming in as a LB, I am not that excited for the move. Miami's LB play was dreadful this year, really truly awful, and he couldn't crack the field at all. I think those injuries have really slowed him down for that position. Dropping down a level might help, but he probably projects best at DE where he didn't play simply because Miami was pretty good at that spot. He probably would have been the #5 DE at Miami had he returned there this year.
If he is coming in as a DE and can get to the 245 range, then I think he could be a really good addition assuming we go to a 4 man front.
