Do we have scholarships to give?

Post by JFW_AGGIES » January 4th, 2021, 2:58 pm

How many do we have left for this class and do we sign high school kids and push them forward?

IF the high school kids are pushed forward AND Bo Maile signs in February then we have 9 left. If NONE of thar scenario plays out then we have 6 left.

So plenty of room for Mr. Rambo. Has someone picked up the phone yet?

This is shaping up to be a really good recruiting staff. I think I’d rather they save spots for the next class giving them time to evaluate and recruit rather than fill up those spots with transfers now.

So how does it work with players that were offered from old coaches? Do those offers still stand or does the new coaching staff have the right to pull them? Whatever the answer is I’m also interested to hear your take on if it is fair to the new coaches if they have to keep or to the players offered if the coaches have the right to pull.

The new staff does NOT have to honor a commitment or an offer. HOWEVER, it's typically bad form not to honor a verbal commitment.

We should take transfers or mid 3* plus recruits with our remaining 2021 schollies. The more guys we get here in time for spring ball the better!! Lots of holes to fill!

I agree but I wouldn’t push the high school guys forward for transfer players.

The high school kids would just go on schollie in August. They would still suit up in 2021. For only two or three dudes, I think it's worth it.

Perhaps. Will we have the full 25 for the 2022 class? I guess my point is I don’t want to limit the spots this staff has to work with because they’re probably going to recruit at a much higher level than the last staff.

From the looks of it the last coaching staff was fully invested in recruiting the last three to four months.

I was being sarcastic at Intermeddler's response that this staff will recruit at a much higher level than the previous staff. It was pretty clear that the last staff just completely gave up recruiting in September.

This is maybe the most mind boggling part of the entire disaster to me.
What was Frank going to do if he got the job?!?!?!? Just through a few years out the window?

It sounds like there were so few offers that it doesn't really matter at this point.

We'll be pretty close. I can have the numbers tomorrow. I wouldn't rule out a few summer additions either. If they don't, we'll go into 2021 with 75 or less scholarship dudes. It will be interesting how many of Gary's RM's the new staff ends up taking.

This is shaping up to be a really good recruiting staff. I think I’d rather they save spots for the next class giving them time to evaluate and recruit rather than fill up those spots with transfers now.
I'm not sure what you mean by this my Aggie brother?
I was being sarcastic at Intermeddler's response that this staff will recruit at a much higher level than the previous staff. It was pretty clear that the last staff just completely gave up recruiting in September.
Ok gotcha! My bad my Aggie brother!

This is maybe the most mind boggling part of the entire disaster to me.
What was Frank going to do if he got the job?!?!?!? Just through a few years out the window?
You can't just stop recruiting. Whatever your job, recruiting IS the job!
You’re assuming if Frank’s staff made offers that they were honored. Do we know that’s a fact? Just asking.
Once Frank assumed the Interim Head Coach role, the staff made 2 or 3 offers to 2022 or 2023 kids. I have no idea if the new staff is going to honor those offers or just start from scratch. Most of our offers down the road were to pretty high profile kids that the old staff was trying to get in on early.

We'll be pretty close. I can have the numbers tomorrow. I wouldn't rule out a few summer additions either. If they don't, we'll go into 2021 with 75 or less scholarship dudes. It will be interesting how many of Gary's RM's the new staff ends up taking.

Patrick Joyner Jr., a DE/LB from Miami, entered the portal today. Maybe someone to keep an eye on that may follow Banda.

Hardly ever played at Miami. Had an injury or two early in his career. Too slow for LB and buried on the DE depth chart behind a bunch of good players. Tweener at the ACC level but might fit here as a rush DE familiar with what Banda probably wants to do.

It also sounds like we might be flipping Sabastian Sagar, a Georgia Tech commit that plays LB. Credit to Banda.

I also notice Kansas has had a lot of guys enter the portal, especially in the secondary. One is a safety Davon Ferguson that’s been a productive player for a couple years for them. He opted out after the 4th game this season. Maybe Mayberry could be a positive influence on him for USU.

Tons of receivers in the portal. Arizona alone has 6 of them and Kansas has 5.

Sweet, that’d be a nice get. He is from Loganville so moving to Logan shouldn’t be much of an adjustment. Image

Love his size. Gotta say flipping from Ga tech would be impressive. Perhaps they don’t have room?

Grayson High School plays in the largest classification here in Georgia and are usually loaded with D1 talent. They won state this year and ended up ranked third in the country. Their QB is Jacob Garcia (started the year in CA) who was originally committed to USC and ended up flipping and signing with Miami. If we only had the Miami connection a little earlier. Lol. Looks like Sagar only played 6 games this year.

Heard a rumor this kid is also coming to usu. With all of these LB’s coming in, I have to seriously question that we’ll be running a 4-2-5 next season.

I don't think he's 210 anymore.
