That's disappointing but not overly shocking, any idea on who were looking at for this position now?

Re: Who the New Coaches Are (UPDATED)
If these coaches can create a winning program here, build their reputation, have solid/healthy environment then Utah kids will want to come and play for them. They will be able to get a few of the top tear Utah kids. If you build it they will come.

Re: Who the New Coaches Are (UPDATED)
I know you're not asking me, but for me top tier would be our share of the top 3 star talent and every once in a blue moon some 4 star kid that loves the Aggies. But I think we can do that today with a little bit of effort, doesn't work if you're not even trying to recruit (the previous staff) .
Go Aggies!

Re: Who the New Coaches Are (UPDATED)
Probably not the ones that go to USC, Oregon or Alabama. But the next step down. So maybe not "top tier", but better than the borderline D1 prospects that we seem to get.

Re: Who the New Coaches Are (UPDATED)
I’d agree with high level 3* and lower level 4* recruits would be a nice step up for us....and also realistic. Not every recruit but maybe one or two recruits or transfers a year. Something similar to what Boise has been able to recruit. We’ve had USC and UCLA transfers at USU before. Also, the Byron Hobbs Vaughn player that is transferring in from Texas also had offers from Oklahoma and is a high level 3*. Patrick Joyner, the Miami DE/LB that we are rumored to be pursuing is a 4* and was offered by Alabama, Florida, Florida State. There are only a very limited number of 5* players a year and even 4*. That’s why even the Texas, Florida, and Ohio States of the world who are top 10 recruiting classes have some 3* guys. Cant all be 4* & 5* guys.

Re: Who the New Coaches Are (UPDATED)
Most years in Utah a lower rated 4 star is in the top few of the class and is being recruited by every pac12 school. Not saying we should chase them just saying I don’t expect us to sign those guys coming out of hs unless they have a connection to Logan.

Re: Who the New Coaches Are (UPDATED)
It's REALLY tough for us to crack the top 20 of our own state. The upper crust P5's get much of the top 10 and the rest are sold on utah or byu from birth. The way the top players look at Utah State would have to change DRAMATICALLY in order for us to start landing top 20 to top 15 guys.Blitz79 wrote: ↑January 10th, 2021, 2:47 pmProbably not the ones that go to USC, Oregon or Alabama. Is Tucker still going to be our OC? Just noticed there is still no announcement

I would be shocked if Tucker is not the guy. Even Josh Heupel said he was coming.

And isn’t he in Logan already? I’m thinking of the photo that BA posted a few weeks ago.

Re: Who the New Coaches Are (UPDATED)
He was not in that photo. I brought this up in another thread wondering why it has not been announced yet. He is not listed on the coaching staff page while all others we know about have been. I thought maybe it was a contract negotiation issue or timing issue with UCF but their season is complete and we are past the calendar year mark now too that may have been a critical date for annual contracts.
It has been reported in numerous places going all the way back to early/mid December that he was headed to USU. This was published back on Dec. 12th from Black & Gold Banneret (SBNation).
Maybe we'll hear something this week.

Re: Who the New Coaches Are (UPDATED)
I'm pretty sure all we are waiting for on 3 more coaches is the mandatory state background check. We all know if this were utah or byu it would be a done deal by now.Aglicious wrote: ↑January 10th, 2021, 8:40 pmHe was not in that photo. Tucker’s hold up is the courtesy car from Wilson. It’s scheduled to be a Ford Flex and he wants an Explorer.

Re: Who the New Coaches Are (UPDATED)
Excuse the ignorance, I am the first to admit I know very little about football schemes and philosophy. (I am a big football fan, but have never played more than a turkey bowl).
What is the point of having a inside and an outside linebacker coach in a 4-2-5? If there are only 2 linebackers on the field would it be better to just have one linebacker coach and use the other coach at another position?

Re: Who the New Coaches Are (UPDATED)
2 of the safeties effectively act as OLBs in a traditional 4 2 5. In its traditional form a 4 2 5 is really almost the same as a 4-4 except the 4 2 5 traditionally has certain gap assignments making it very plug and play. At times it is more akin to a 4-3 when you bring a nickel in. Because you have 4 down lineman and 2 inside backers you want one or both of the safeties/OLB to more hybrid guys. Of course whether the safeties are more nickel or more LB depends on the offense you are facing. A team that runs spread and 5 receiver sets a lot will dictate coverage guys at safety. Teams that run a lot of power or option dictate more traditional OLBs.LarryTheAggie wrote: ↑January 11th, 2021, 11:33 amExcuse the ignorance, I am the first to admit I know very little about football schemes and philosophy. The main schematic difference in a 4 2 5 vs a 4-3 is that you only have one traditional safety with the OLBs/Safeties playing up on the slot/TE in an outside LB formation. That is why it requires really good coverage corners and a safety who can get around.

Re: Who the New Coaches Are (UPDATED)
What do they care about on background checks? We hired Tarvish Felton as a basketball coach when he got a DUI. And Fahu Tahi had off the field problems prior to taking the GA job here. Is it just felonies that are disqualifying along with sexual crimes, while misdemeanor assaults and DUIs are ok?aggies22 wrote: ↑January 13th, 2021, 11:45 amThey are still waiting on background checks to come back.Madmartigan wrote: ↑January 13th, 2021, 10:43 amTremendous work, 22. I have zero idea who decides what is okay and what is not. I just know most State jobs require a background check prior to official hire.GameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑January 13th, 2021, 2:43 pmWhat do they care about on background checks?
