Target Transfers
Seeing that this is the best post season in the history of the NCAA with the ability to pick up transfers, who do you all think the new coaching staff should look at getting that has a decent shot of coming here.
I personally think Pita Tonga would help fill a huge hole and we’d have a good shot at getting him here.

Re: Target Transfers
I admit it, I’m slightly concerned about the lack of noise coming from our end with regards to transfers. I would’ve hoped we’d be hitting the portal harder than basically any other school.
That combined with the fact that we never even called Jacob Sirmon (Washington QB transfer) gives me a little bit of pause.

Re: Target Transfers
I've been sincerely impressed with how you all know so much about transfers at other schools. I do not personally follow enough from other schools to know anything about what transfers I would like to see. I'll catch a game here or there but I really only care about USU. I'm glad to hear about potential targets.

Re: Target Transfers
How serious are the coaches looking at quarterbacks in the transfer portal? Are they satisfied with the current QBs on our roster? And no I am not saying we should get Jake Bentley.

100% correct and exactly why we aren't hearing much. Most of the staff is out on vacation. They aren't due back until January 6th.

Re: Target Transfers
I think it's likely too late to get in on a high school kid. With only 3 scholarship QBs on the roster and it being VERY common for most teams to carry at LEAST 4 scholarship QBs, I would say we have to be looking at the transfer portal pretty seriously.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑December 23rd, 2020, 11:05 pmHow serious are the coaches looking at quarterbacks in the transfer portal? Target Transfers
Just me spitballing but here are a few qb’s in the portal that I’d take a look at. Have some significant D1 experience and probably not too much of a reach.aggies22 wrote:I think it's likely too late to get in on a high school kid. Jack Coan - Wisconsin (may be a bit of a stretch)
Hendon Hooker - VT
Asher O’Hara - MTSU
In the end we’ll probably end up with either Logan Bonner (Ark State) or Darriel Mack (UCF) just because there are connections with the new staff.

Re: Target Transfers
One thing everyone needs to think about is BA is a system guy. I know for a pretty certain fact that Sirmon is a 100% pro style QB and did not want to be put in an offense where he had to run the RPO (thanks 22!). Grading transfers has little to do with how well a kid did in high school. High school players are a little more of a crap shoot on whether their game will translate to the next level. This is not GA and this is not an inexperienced staff. They will get their guys that they believe will fit. Not only their system, but what they want to accomplish as a program.

What about the kid from lehi. Cooper. Not saying we are interested now but he is a hs kid we previously offered. Here’s a receiver that we recruited before that ended up going to ASU. He has great speed and could be a good deep threat.

This is correct, BA will be running a specific system on offense. His offenses were really good at A-State, i believe he can have just as successful offenses here. It might take him a year or 2, but i believe he will get our offense rocking.jeffdan25 wrote: ↑December 24th, 2020, 8:21 amOne thing everyone needs to think about is BA is a system guy. He’s leaning towards Weber State though. I think if Blake wants him bad enough, he could still get him though.
The new staff has reached out to him though.
And the new staff seems to be hitting Utah recruiting Utah pretty hard after Gary had pretty much thrown in the towel. Kyle Cefalo has been reaching out and setting meetings with high school coaches and inviting them up to Logan to see the program.

Commitments can be made during the dead period. However, schools can't make contact with recruits.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑December 24th, 2020, 4:55 pmYet there continues to be several solid transfers on paper announcing their commitment to G5 schools during this “dead period”.

Re: Target Transfers
Coan would be a huge stretch. I'm assuming he'll transfer back to a NY school like Syracuse or maybe depending on their QB situation maybe Rutgers. He went to school not far from where I did and most kids out there either stay local or go to Florida for school because that's where their grandparents moved to for retirement.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑December 24th, 2020, 7:46 amJust me spitballing but here are a few qb’s in the portal that I’d take a look at. Re: Target Transfers
ALL NCAA Division 1 sports are in a dead period and have been in a dead period since March and will continue to be in a dead period until at least April 15. This is due to covid and is for all sports at the division 1 level.
During a dead period coaches can call, zoom, FaceTime, text and email. The only thing that’s prohibited during a dead period is any type of in person contact whether it is on or off campus. This means there has been no off campus evaluations and no official or unofficial visits. It is how ALL recruiting has been done since March.
Id say the lack of movement right now is more an indication of a coach putting a staff together while simultaneously trying to evaluate a dumpster fire of a roster AND evaluate kids in the portal and try and recruit them virtually. It’s not necessarily a bad thing just more of a lot of things happening at the same time plus Christmas.
