San Jose to the Arizona Bowl

Post by tysteve20 » December 20th, 2020, 10:01 am

The Spartans got completely screwed on this. They should be in the LA Bowl or nothing.
I’m sure that means they will be taking the Donks instead. Ridiculous.

LA Bowl has been cancelled. Many are projecting Boise will play UTSA in the First Responders bowl. No matchup for MW against the Pac12 this year.

Ah. I was unaware of that. Still pretty sad that the Arizona bowl is the conferences second choice.

Doubt there will be any bowls in CA this year. They moved the Rose Bowl to Jerry World, unthinkable in any other year.

In other news Utah State has been invited and accepted an invitation to the backout bowl.

So is San Jose State an up and coming team, or was this a once in a generation thing where all the is stars aligned?

San Jose has a coach that has been busily reconstructing a lethargic football program. Some T V commentators at more than yesterdays Boise game have noted the same, and even last season there were some positive accolades sent his way.

There are occasions when a team comes together with chemistry, good fortune and very few season ending or long term difficult injuries, and this many be one of those years for them.

Appears this Head Coach has done yeoman work as he oversaw the regeneration of Spartan Football. Having made this post , I'd be surprised if he jumped for a larger job this season, just due to the lack of demand and opportunity for a successful gridiron Head Coach. Some have been expecting a break out year for the Spartans, and this is one of those seasons. I wish their program well except when they play Utah State.

I wouldn't worry that much about bowls this year with everything going on. SJSU's bowl was yesterday. Beating the perennial best team in the league to have an undefeated season and win the conference. Good for them. They had a great year.

Great game yesterday. SJSU has a grad transfer QB, speedy WR's and a functional TE. They played well on offense, SJ passing game worked against Boise NFL caliber DBackfield.

But the SJ defense is what won the game. They are undersized, but play gaps /lanes correctly. They shut down Boise's running game and made them one dimensional. They have 3 defensive lineman who can get into / disrupt the pocket. One of them should play in the NFL (MW defensive player of the year).

If Anderson can get a MW championship in 3 years? I'd be happy to accept the championship in exchange for him leaving for the PAC 12 like the SJ coach is rumored to be doing (Arizona)

San Jose being ranked 22 in final playoff rankings is a joke. Undefeated and just beat a full strength Boise by double digits. Byu played a depleted boise and has a loss and is 6 spots higher than San Jose. San Jose should be at least top 15.

Or is there something going on in the locker room? Outside take only, but this has been a dicey year plus the Donks did import a transfer Q B this season and there was speculation about that event, of which we have a much closer look in Logan.

Try putting yourself in these kids shoes, your not allowed to hangout with your friends, testing all the time, they've been through a lot this yr! I know what I had deal with my kid playing comps sports this yr and it was difficult, when you tie in all the family dynamics its almost impossible to have fun like usual!
I can’t make any sense of this. Why would they not want to play????

Not worth exposing themselves and families to the virus to play toledo or Tulsa or whoever they'd get in the snow on espnU at 10 pm eastern when they've been under such strict testing and social restrictions anyway.

To not play because its Tulsa at 10pm = spoiled brats.

To not play because of COVID then fine. However, if COVID is the reason then I would expect them to cancel regardless of what bowl it is.

Yes, but you also got to understand how big of a hassle it is for college kids to follow all the protocols to make sure the games have been played this year. You are asking 20 year olds to isolate away from friends and families for long periods of times.

I agree they should play, but I also think fans should give a ton of credit to the players who have made this season possible. It wasn't easy to pull off.

I think the players and coaches from Boise State have been watching the same news reports we have been seeing where it is strongly encouraged for families to have large social gatherings for the holidays. Since the vaccine will be made available to the general public within the next 3-6 months, it is safe to get together now for Christmas and New Year’s. Being in a dangerous environment where everyone around you is being tested three times per week is like walking on the edge of a cliff while being surrounded by 100 mph winds. These football players just want to be safe, and I think we can all appreciate that. :joking:

SJSU FB team getting some grief here for returning to SJ after beating BSU and not following county quarantine regulations. The school will probably get fined

I'm guessing they're there to participate in a BLM/Antifa/SJSDeferredHomecoming Demonstration/Parade/Houseburning/Winterfest event, which is expressly excepted from the People's Republic's restrictions.

I think this year is different. Under any other year - if an athlete knew he was going to be playing his last tackle football game of significance in his life, of course he would want to play. With the "mulligan" year granted by the NCAA, he can now play another full season, regardless of class, and this is not the end. I think this factors into the decision.
