Matt Wells
First off, congratulations on your new hire. I wish you guys the best of luck, and many winning seasons. Just wanted to give you some news about wells. By all accounts it looks like he will be gone this week. I'm hoping we find a great replacement as well.

Re: Matthew Wells
Firing Wells after two seasons to hire Art Briles would be an astronomically bad decision, but good luck with that.

Re: Matt Wells
I believe in 2nd chances, but even that has its limits. Art Briles should not have a second chance at running a football team. What he allowed to take place in Waco is disgusting. If I was a TT fan, I’d be livid at the mere discussion of hiring him.

I really hope Art Briles is not your coach. Yes he can win, but there are some things that are more important than winning football games.

Yeah you’d think he would have last longer but for him What a great deal. he is taking $18MM to the bank or whatever it is. Man what a good life for him from a money perspective.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑December 13th, 2020, 9:06 pmWells lasted even less than the 3 years I thought he'd get.

Firewells, why am I not seeing more buzz for Harrell being the top choice? It seems he’s not close. It’s surprising to me.

Man you have a better memory than me if you can recall what one poster posted a few years ago. Even if hipster predicted this, we’ve all predicted and been wrong plenty of times. Re: Matt Wells
The fact is some people wanted Gary back thinking we were getting his 2009 self, which we weren't. But the sad reality is even the people that were against him didn't think in our worst nightmare we would decline as much as we did, and would instead just decline to 4-8, 5-7 type seasons.

I would sever all ties with the university and never watch another Aggie game as long as I live if we hired Art Briles. One year away from talks of being fired by Utah State, I don't fault Wells at all for taking that pay day. If I was him I'd retire and just enjoy life.slcagg wrote: ↑December 13th, 2020, 9:17 pmYeah you’d think he would have last longer but for him What a great deal. he is taking $18MM to the bank or whatever it is. I do remember thinking Gary could be here 10 years if successful and then retire. I think I liked the idea of some stability rather than having to hire a new up and comer every 3-4 years, but man the Gary experiment failed. I also think the plan was for Frank to eventually take over for him and that's what has Frank so bent out of shape.

Yeah, Maile thought this was going to be his job, which was weird. Pretty rare for interim coaches on bad teams to the ones to get hired. Just because you are an assistant for a long time somewhere doesn't mean the job should be yours.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑December 14th, 2020, 11:12 amDid I predict 20 years? Ugghh...
Yost. He was great for us, too bad it didn't work out for him at TT. The guy hated the pressure of being the HC, and he was under a microscope in Lubbock. I think he just needs to be a G5 OC and he'd be happy and do a great job.
Logan might have been the perfect fit for him long term in the end.....

Re: Matt Wells
Looks like Wells just used envelop number 2.
Context: The old recently fired HC gives 3 envelopes to the new HC with instructions to open them in order to receive advice when on the hot seat. After a bad stretch, new HC opens envelop #1 which reads, "Blame the former coaches."
After another tough stretch, he opens envelop #2 which reads, "Blame the assistant coaches."
Finally the third rough stretch came, and when on the hot seat, the HC opens envelop #3 which reads, "Prepare 3 envelopes."
MW, if things don't improve will soon, be prepping his 3 envelopes.
