My favorite isn't on the list so I had to pick other.
Surprised by how many picked Maile. I'd be fine with Frank, but hope he's who we pick? I'm not sure I'm there yet.

I have no concern about how Frank is during interviews, etc. I think he is great with the kids, and leads from the front. He'll always be the first one over the hill, and the boys know it. Frank will lead. And he'll win.

Do this poll 3 weeks ago about replacing Frank as DC and I bet it's overwhelmingly in support of getting rid of him. Amazing what that one win did.

I don’t think it is the one win that has tipped some folks toward Maile. I think it’s how he has handled the dumpster fire that was handed to him. He has said all the right things, made some tough decisions, and been a strong leader. He’s been a stabilizing force and it hasn’t gone unnoticed. He’s won the players’ confidence ...... and won a game. Whether or not he ends up being the best option, he deserves serious consideration.

I'm sure you could surmise this, but it's not just about the W against the Lobos. it's the general "feel" of what's going on within the program. It's the fact that FM has been more assertive than many of us would have expected him to be when he was put in this position. It's that the TEAM has seemed to have more fire in their belly the last two games and been more competitive even though we're down 4-6 of our best players (on paper). Look, most of us know that FM wouldn't likely have led us to victory against BSU or SDSU...we just didn't/don't have the horses. But the fact that we've got more enthusiasm, more smiles, more love for the game since GA (and JS??) left says something about the man and what he might be capable of. I'm still not firmly in the FM camp (I voted for Jay Hill above, fwiw), but there's no need to (underhandedly) disparage those of us that feel like Frank has done things to warm us up to the idea of having him stick around as HC...

edit: looks like AiI beat me to it and (while he was at it) said it better than I did. same sentiment, though...FM deserves a look...but not just because of one game...

For me, it comes down to recruiting. Frank knows how to recruit Logan. He also wasn't afraid to get after players and actually pushed a few away from the program which I think is an overall good thing. The team seems to be in better spirits and you wonder how much those guys were bringing everything down with their attitudes. I think Frank can cut out cancer and turn the program around FAST.

count me among those warming to maile

not because i'm oh so impressed at winning the unm game, but because of the decisions he made. aren't head coaches supposed to be decision makers, both on and off the field? wells and GA 1.0, for all their faults, tended to make good decisions as evidenced by the number of wins they had while here.

maile named a new starter, demoted an OC, and got the kids playing hard.

during the first 2 years of GA 1.0 we could all tell that it was different, that the kids were playing harder, and that there was more passion. we are going to need that sort of passion and heart and talent development where each player is inspired to play better because we aren't going to get highly rated recruits very often. so when maile gets them playing a little harder, i notice and i take interest.

besides... there's a lot of room between "ugh, no.", "yeah i could be good with that.", and "if we don't hire him i'll never donate another dollar"

i'm more surprised that others resist frank maile than others are surprised that posters such as myself are surprised i've warmed to him.

I watched a rebroadcast of the Montana-Montana State game from last year. Choate it the real deal. Taking a program with much less resources and recent tradition than the Griz and totally sticking it to them, and beating them 4 years in a row. He is an excellent coach.
