So who do you hope it is?
Based on the names that have been bandied about here and elsewhere -- not who you think it will be, but who you hope it will be.
Nobody here knows anything.

Gonna go out on a limb here and say Butch Jones. Had tons of success at Central Michigan and Cincinnati, and was good at Tennessee till his last season. He’s won four conference championships too. Has a lot of experience and I think he’d be great.

Re: So who do you hope it is?
I really really hope it’s Coach Maile. That just may save some transferring and get the team chemistry back

To be honest a lot of those I would be fine with. Especially Frank Maile, Jay Hill, Lance Leipold, and possibly even Butch Jones. I'm just glad I'm not the one who has to make the decision. I trust Hartwell to make a good choice.

I'm not sold on Maile, but am being sold more and more. Given his apparent struggles as a coordinator, what do you see in him (other than current players liking him) that puts you in his corner? I'd love to hear an insider's opinion on him.taniataylor wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2020, 11:20 amI really really hope it’s Coach Maile. We've got some other parents/ family on here as well, if they are willing and comfortable, I would love to get their thoughts too. Not that I don't value your opinion, Tania, just the opposite, I just like the additional perspective from you and those who will be more impacted than the rest of us fans.LarryTheAggie wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2020, 11:27 amI am going to be honest. Re: So who do you hope it is?
I love the love for Coach Maile, and I know he's going to bail if he doesn't get it, but maybe that's best for everyone. I voted for other, begrudgingly, because I want Heartwell to work his magic.
BUT then again, maybe we should give Maile the next two games to see what he can do, hell if he wins out, I say give the man the job!!!!

Re: So who do you hope it is?
More Maile love than I thought. I think he has great potential to be a head coach because it seems like his players love him and they would do anything for him. If Gary had run the program like he did the first time around then I'd be a lot more comfortable with Maile taking over. However, the way the program is right now, it's just a gamble to me.

I hope it is new blood, and really, I hope it is Jay Hill.
But if we continue to look competent in the last two games, I will not be disappointed if it is Maile.

Re: So who do you hope it is?
Me too. But there is a lot of love for Frank as an Aggie and a human being, and a long-time faithful assistant here. He gets the Poly/RM/Utah HS walk-on dynamic (not enough, but essential) that has allowed us to be successful in the MWC. And while I don't mind that we're thought of as a stepping-stone program, it would still be nice to have someone who might have success and want to stay, Stew-style. Maybe all that's worth a roll of the dice. I doubt that's what will happen, but I've gotten pretty comfortable with the idea.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2020, 11:50 amI must admit, the results of this poll are very surprising to me.

Re: So who do you hope it is?
How fair/valuable is it to judge Maile as a HC via the rest of season when he was thrown a complete disaster in the middle of the season? There's only so much you can do for a college fball team as a HC in a week or two's time... especially during the COVID era.

Here's my prediction: Frank and team will do great these last two weeks and we'll all get really invested and on board with it. Then Hartwell will pull some clear out of left field guy nobody has heard of and Aggieland will get all angsty and angry. The ebbs and flows of this topic over the last few weeks have been awesome. I love sports!

He is really a guy that believes in rewarding hard work with playing time and not all the other BS politics that go along with starting a football game.
He has been interim HC twice now, why wouldnt he deserve a shot? He picked us up, won a bowl game at LITERALLY the last minute. He had a bumpy 1st game but it’s looking up. EVEN Jordan is smiling and enjoying football again...something none of you may have noticed but he just wasnt in it and that does not happen.
I am really really rooting for Coach Maile. If he’s nothing else, he’s loyal to USU.... which is more than I can say for some, including coaches. He could have left to Texas Tech but he didnt. He could have looked for somewhere else to coach once he didnt get the HC last time...nope he stuck it out. He’s a good man. His media presence is what everyone here sees, but I could care less how much he smiles on camera...he’s focused & the team has really put an effort out for him.

i agree with this approach. I want to see how he can game plan against a team that is unique as AF. I want to see if we can compete with that team after just getting bent over given the 12X7 last year.CastIronAggie wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2020, 12:12 pmI am not dead set on anyone.
